Admiral Insurance
Discussion
I have come across a discussion within the Porsche Club that concerns me
[quote]
So I have my Cayman covered on a dual-car policy with Admiral. Back when I took the policy out, I contacted them via telephone to query the "organised motoring event" exclusion that I had noticed on the policy document. Specifically it states:
General Exceptions
h. used to participate in any test, competition or organised motoring event
Sounded ominous but their support told me not to worry, it is intended for things like rallying which is backed up by this mention on one of their magazine guides:
11. Driving in unusual locations
We don’t cover you for driving your car in dangerous or unusual places like racecourses. We also won’t cover you for organised motorsports or rallying.
Your policy book can let you know more, and you can always contact us through webchat if you’re confused.
Then I started to hear lots of talk about Admiral potentially not covering PCGB drives. At first, I thought this was scaremongering so set out to confirm. It took some months and persistence but they finally got their underwriters to answer the following coverage scenarios that I had put to them:
1. A driver training day at CAT Driver Training
2. A PCGB tour of Scotland
3. A Sunday morning drive with other members of PCGB
4. Displaying my car in a field at PCGB event
5. Driving my car near my house with a friend who owns a Jaguar F-Type
Of these five scenarios, only the last was covered by my policy. Glad it happens to be up for renewal in the next two weeks!"

I am a Club member and I have used all my cars on various club events. So this seems a bit restrictive especially 2 and 3.

That is very interesting to know, and a little worrying. I am not currently with Admiral, but have insured a number of cars with them in the past, and done some things similar to what you describe. "Organised motoring event" is shockingly ambiguous; it never occurred to me that driving my own car, on the open public road, in full compliance with the law (including speed limits) could be invalid due to such a clause. I'll definitely be on the lookout for anything like that at renewal time.
Insurance companies broadly have the same profitability (combined ratio in finance speak)…if one insurance company is cheaper than another it is because they are taking less risk. I used to use them and stopped using them when they told me that despite having to itemise every option on my car their payout in the event of a total loss would only be on a base spec car.
Insurance is broadly a “you pays your money and takes your choice” but I don’t think there is such a thing as cheap insurance it is just that the policies have different terms.

I’ve just insured a Ferrari with Admiral on a multi car policy. There were no problems getting them to commit in writing that they were covering the full value of the car including approximately £70k worth of factory options; I just emailed them a copy of the spec.
p.s. They were useless for my GT3 though. They refused cover on the basis it had a roll cage, even though it was a factory fit. The underwriters baulked when they saw that the clubsport pack included a cage and harnesses.

Whilst some of those points 1-5 you asked for clarification from them I’ve heard of issues on previously , the one below I really find odd.
4. Displaying my car in a field at PCGB event.
Presumably they also won’t offer cover when you park in a field for a local village fete or indeed perhaps park in a car park ?!
But did your policy specifically make mention of these exclusions or just the generic ambiguous reference to PCGB events ?

AIUI he was quoting someone else from the Porsche club. He doesn’t have cover yet and the policy elements he quoted did not refer to PCGB
Will wait for OP reply but he is insured with the nautical ones albeit with only 2 weeks remaining on his policy and was specifically commenting on those points as he had already spoken to them. I insured a Macan GTS and 458 Speciale with Admiral last May on a multicar policy. Please go elsewhere, they have been nothing but painful to deal with. 17 years no claims bonuses, never had a single non fault or any type of claim ever - no speeding tickets, nothing.
My Macan was stolen in August and they messed me around royally for months trying to wiggle out of settling the claim and I needed to get lawyers involved. You deal with literally dozens of people who, frankly, don’t give a toss but promise you they do. They reneged on absolutely everything they could and tried to offer me a £100 Halfords voucher for the £1500 of isofix, babyseats and items stolen with the car. They also shockingly suggested that I was somehow complicit in the theft of the car early on despite me confirming that I had CCTV footage (which they never asked for) and a crime reference from the police. Both keys were also locked in a safe and sent in to them with the V5 within 24 hours of the theft.
I’m only writing this as the Ferrari is currently sat at a main dealer who advise it needs a new windscreen. Lots of phone calls later to the lovely people at Admiral and it’s now waiting as a complaint from me on their side as I have refused their £50 offer of payment contribution to replace the glass with the dealer who emailed them the estimate directly.
Run, just run.

But as you and others have said, what’s the difference between a normal road with normal cars on and one with a few club members or indeed a car park.
In 20 years of club membership I’ve never seen a crash or a car nicked from an event. I’m sure it must happen though.
I won’t be using them.
Apologies to Oaky for my misread then !
But my comments stand in terms of how odd the situation is with them.
As others have said , cheap ( relatively these days ) for a reason.
Car insurance is never vfm unless you need to claim but when you do you certainly don’t want the hassle that so happen seems to happen with those that are cheap -hardly unsurprisingly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Don't touch Admiral with a hefty barge pole. I went to all kinds of lengths to get them to respond to me after a no fault incident and eventually used the name of their CEO on Linkedin (very politely) and got a phone call within 24 hours. My Macan was stolen in August and they messed me around royally for months trying to wiggle out of settling the claim and I needed to get lawyers involved. I can't tell you how much time I've wasted hanging on the phone for them.
