Ferrari 812 SF vs Lamborghini Urus

Hi all,

I know this is a bad comparison as these cars are very different! But I like both of these cars and can't decide.

I was wondering what would you recommend if you were to pick one.

Also - is anyone concerned that v12 are being phased out? Is there a risk any of these big engine cars will be banned altogether or that risk is many years out?

Really appreciate any advice, especially if you have driven or owned either one.

Thanks! I've never seen a Purosangue in real life.. plus it will be a good 80-100k more in price compared to these.

The backseats of the Urus is obviously a big advantage for storage and/or traveling with friends - wonder if I'm missing anything else.

One is a real car and one is a horrendous carbuncle?
And thats from someone who regularly lambasts the 812 as a fat slacker of a car and owns a silly performance SUV that he never remotely explores the envelope of!

Thanks for this. Actually I wasn't into the Urus at all until I saw it from close up and got in and it seems to be quite nice. But ok +1 to 812. I wanted to find a car that is relatively sporty, looks good and generally nice to drive. I ended up between these two although there are others like the Roma and Aventador or the G wagon.

A VW Touareg in a dress vs the ultimate V12 supercar? Really? (Ok, as 812 owner I might be biased).
But as a recent owner of a high performance SUV I can confirm they are hateful compromised things; but come on, comparing chalk and cheese here……..

The 812SF is a special car and is quick. As a daily driver it’s a little full on so for a daily driver the Urus is much easier to live with.

812SF for a weekend car
Urus for a daily.

No way you can buy one of those unless you have spent a couple of million with Ferrari previously and own some cars.

Can you please help me - what should I expect to pay for insurance on a 812? say initially and maybe after 2-3 years? I've had quotes 10-12k+ , is this normal? Would you kindly share some guide on what you pay?

also do you recommend any broker?

Well that well and truly rules out the Urus then.
Still hard to understand how someones shopping list could come down to these two, but each to their own. Possibly the last ever Ferrari GT car with an NA V12 engine or a Tuareg wearing an ugly shouty dress

Lol it's what I found in the showroom and they both look good.

Just out of interest, do you know much about insurance? I've done some search for insurance on the 812 and they're crazy high. the only sensible one I got is from Admiral "LittleBox" that tracks all your movement - is this ok?

I really appreciate any input on this.

Insurance is such a variable according to age area driving experience etc etc so its completely possible for the quotes to seem massive if you are young living urban with a limited or challenged driving record and almost meaningless for others' costs to be mentioned

I’m with Locktons and its about c£2k p.a. I think. Could add it to my Admiral multi car for c£800 pa. Couldn’t be done with one of those black box thingies…. Took a bit of effort to insure the 812 at first despite many years of driving supercars. Think if this is your first dabble in to 800 hp rwd cars (or similar) insurance is going to be costly…..

Owned both - don’t own the 812 anymore but on my third urus.

(Really miss the 812 ) however not practical most of the time.

Would definitely have one again as a second car but with a baby on the way , not sure I can justify.

Both great cars ( ignoring the woeful infotainment in the Ferrari )

Think it cost me a grand all in to insure the F12 with the Cayenne on Admiral multi car.

I'd consider an FF (or the facelifted version, the Lusso V12), as it has the same basic V12 and layout as the 812 combined with proper back seats. It was also good enough for Ferrari to use as the basis for the Purosangue. It would seem to combine most of the benefits of both the cars you're considering.

My impression generally is supercar insurance is around £1-2k for most people, unless you're unusually young or with a colourful driving record. Unless the 812 is specifically a lot more?
If you share your relevant details (age, area you live, driving history) then people may be able to be more specific.

Nope, just rural Devon.
When I bought the F12, the multi car policy had the Cayenne and 4C on. I’d just sold the 4C, so the F12 was replacing it and I remember the differential cost was something stupid like just £50 extra. I remember sitting in the dealership laughing.
