Have luxury car brands lost their exclusivity?
Discussion
Supercars like the Aventador should be exclusive and made in limited numbers .
Lamborghini have made zillions of them , there's 15 limited editions listed on Wikipedia , including the bonkers Veneno , and PH just today
have an article on the Ultimate , the very last run out model , only going to make 600 , that's still a lot .
Profits over exclusivity , probably the only way the brand survives .

Also, cheap borrowing in the last decade or so have made ownership much more accessible to the 'average' guy. Years ago it was only the rich and famous who ran Supercars. Now, it's quite common to speak with owners who aren't particularly wealthy but comfortable spending £1000 pcm with a hefty balloon at the end. Manufacturers and finance companies are happy too. Great that it means more people experience the cars and that more cars are built - but it obviously dilutes the exclusivity.

No amount of accessible finance makes an "average" guy able to afford a supercar.Nor are they available for £1000pcm ffs; a Range Rover sport is more than that.

I thought that they are? For something like a 458 a small 20-30k deposit is all that's required to arrive at that sort of monthly figure.Nor are they available for £1000pcm ffs; a Range Rover sport is more than that.
I could be out of date but I'm sure that I've read similar on PH.

Wrong. In fact I've had 2 Lambo's based around this and I consider myself an average guy. Deposit and balloon tailored to get your mthlyNor are they available for £1000pcm ffs; a Range Rover sport is more than that.

Your "average guy" who is doing OK for himself has a full-time job and earns probably £30-40k a year.
I'd suggest you are deep into the upper quartile of earners and very far from average.

Sounds like normal behaviour for Mr Average for sure!

Not advocating that using that money in that way is a sound financial choice, however we wouldn't be on PH if wasting money on cars wasn't within the scope of our man maths

Sure a lot vs Miuras or even Countaches.
But the market is so much bigger these days, effectively global, and Lamborghini is a sustainable business. It was rarely that previously.
To me it’s not how many but is the spirit of the car still there.
An Aventador is every much a Lamborghini as a Miura or a Countach is.
