Windscreen protection
Discussion
Just had a rock smash my 488 GTB windscreen on the M40 last weekend, my insurance has just authorised a £4k replacement.
I don't want this again.
Has anyone experienced fitting the film supplied my Clearplex.

Yes I’ve had two fitted to different cars they have saved my bacon on several occasions, I paid around £400 each time, mine were both done by Reepsouthern at dunsfold. They will last about 18 months before needing replacement again, due to light scratching from windscreen wipers, if it’s a garage queen and does not go out in the rain it may last a bit longer.
There’s also the Mr Myagi option.
A chap replacing a windscreen for me by the side of the road after it had shattered, told me that “all” you need to do is get your hand onto the windscreen as you see the stone coming.
If you can do that, the force is just absorbed through your hand.
I haven’t had the opportunity to do it since then.
He presumably could catch flies with chopsticks.

I'm confused... why would you pay £400 to protect something which is covered by most insurance policies with a nominal £100 excess?
I'm glad somebody else asked what I was thinking! It is a pain getting a windscreen replaced - but it's not something that happens very often, is covered by insurance and doesn't generally even affect your NCD or cause a price increase on renewal.
Fair point, but I would prefer not to have another £4k claim for a screen for quite some time. Maybe it is all factored into their premium but it is all hassle. Perhaps more annoying are screen chips that are not sufficient to require screen replacement.
Not decided what to do, I have watched lots off YouTube installs. Esoteric in the US does not recommend any screen films at the moment.

Well in my case it was not protected, and a 6k replacement bill - so had I known about this (need to check if TÜV compliant), I would have gotten it I currently have 2 further windscreens with cracks due to stones (which I have not replaced yet)
Sounds great to me and need to look into this
