Hey guys. Hoping to pick some brains on the subject of roller doors. I have a double garage with two single manual up and over doors. I'm planning on fitting a 4 post parking lift so I can store 3 cars. To do so I need to replace the up and over doors to the roller shutter type (to gain the height I need inside) I've got to do this on a bit of a budget, but want to avoid the buy cheap, buy twice trap. The house isn't our forever home, so I just need something that will be reliable.

I've had a couple of quotes, ranging from £2,200 to £3,200. The lower end of that appeals but would spend up to £2,800. The £2,200 quote is for a make called Trojon, the brochure looks good quality, the motors are either Somfy or NRG (quality makes I believe) and come with 5 years guarantee. Fitter is local, has good Google reviews but doesn't specialise in roller doors, fits all types. A builder friend recently used him for a couple of new builds he is working on and was happy.

Any advice recommendations? Does anyone have any experience with Trojon? (made in Leicester so just up the road) Or anyone recommend somewhere to try around the East Midlands area?

Ive used AutoRoll up in the NE for my last few garage doors and theyve been fine. Ive fitted them myself too in a couple of hours so if you're handy, then you could save some cash.

I used this company on recommendation from two friends. They are based in Northamptonshire and were competitively priced for my double width door.

One of the key considerations is to make sure the shutter itself fits snugly into a U shaped section so it cannot be jemmied out easily by the baddies if they come calling.

Mines been in nearly 3 years, still pleased with it. Appears very secure and also insulated and sealed well..... garage stays warm!

Not sure if it’s an issue for you, I lost a small amount of opening width due to the size of the U channels so might be worth checking.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve got up and over doors right now that have a frame, the few that have come around have said I’ll gain width as they’ll tuck the door behind the walls. I can’t afford to lose any, I’m not exaggerating, I’ve got 10mm max spare by either wing mirror of the 720 when I’m reversing it in!

I had a regular single roller and a bespoke double roller fitted at home by Rob at Garage Concepts.

The double was to fit to our barn as that is where I keep the majority of my vehicles. tuck in behind the opening and slim fitting. The doors are made by Aluroll and very secure and cannot be gemmied out of the channel which was vitally important for me.

So would recommend Aluroll https://www.aluroll.co.uk/t77-classic-roller-garage-door

and also Rob for the whole tiling and decorating they did around the area. They installed the roller doors brilliantly and took time to ensure the fitment was in keeping with an old barn. https://www.garageconcepts.co.uk/

The extra width was a nice plus point for me
