Ferrari design language
Discussion
The Roma is the most beautiful car they've put out in decades imo and I'm toying with the idea of getting one. If I do, it'll be my first f car and although I also love the F8, it feels like 3 gens of mr V8 berlinetta's with basically the same body is pushing it. That said, I still prefer it to the 812 which looks noticeably worse to my eyes than the f12.
The problem with having a coherent design “language“ across the entire lineup is you have different cars being sold from different years of launch. Unless you are going to have glacial changes in design (mainly the Germans) then you’re going to have different things going in different directions. Throw Italians into the mix, and it’s a recipe for some inevitable clashes in styles. I say that as a long time Ferrari customer, so it doesn’t really put me off. I’m buying a single car, not the entire lineup.

Ok. What do you think of the exterior styling of each individual car?Over the years there have been plenty of Ferraris that I’ve disliked the looks of, but generally speaking they have been the exception rather than the rule.
Of the current crop, to my eyes the Roma is the pick of the range and that peaks at ‘quite nice’ rather than desirable.
The Portafino looks dreadful, a big step back from a California T.
The Roma looks nice, an elegant GT with old school styling.
The 812 looks pretty good but is not an improvement on the F12 to me, perhaps a little too fussy looking.
The F8 again is a step in the wrong direction for me. It looks like they didn’t have any ideas on how to replace the 488 shape so reworked it in a way that makes it less attractive.
The SF90 doesn’t look Italian, a Honda or Corvette badge wouldn’t look out of place.

I agree, but will say the 812 GTS looks very special. The Roma is a nice looking car, but a bit fish looking at the front (a grass carp). And I was going to say the SF90 looks like a Corvette.Of the current crop, to my eyes the Roma is the pick of the range and that peaks at ‘quite nice’ rather than desirable.

Another vote for the Roma, that's a good looking car and I like the FF / GTC4 too Others are a bit OTT really. I know Ferrari's tend to go with a new car and then renaming it as a heavy facelift and update with 348 to 355, 360 to F430, FF to GTC4 etc. but the 458's two updates to 488 and then F8 is a long old stretch to still call it a new car. As said already, the SF90 doesn't look great and doesn't look like a Ferrari.
Other brands do have more identity long term, Lambo with the angles, Porsche with the 911, Astons (current Vantage grille excepted) trace back to DB7, which skips back to older Astons before the old Vantage V8 cars. A new Ferrari is anyone's guess. A Roma, SF90 and F8 next to each other would not look like cars from the same company.

Fussy, fiddly, awkward, over-styled, uncomfortable angles, too many extra bits stuck on. Not for me. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Ferrari lover but none of their current range appeals, especially when compared with exquisite cars like the 355. If I had to have a NEW supercar I'd buy a Lamborghini Huracan or a Maserati MC20 over any current Ferrari. Bring back Pininfarina!
Interesting thread, as I was discussing just this issue with some friends not so long ago.
Not a single Ferrari since the 360 has tempted me to buy one. Of course I’m sure they’re all great cars, but none give me the emotional response to want to buy or covet. The fact that I in the end went for the Vantage at the time, means even the pull of a 360 wasn’t enough.

I had sort of the opposite experience. When I bought my 360 I preferred the DB9 but I really wanted a Ferrari. Not a single Ferrari since the 360 has tempted me to buy one. I really liked the looks of the Ferrari but it was years behind in terms of the feel of the drive and the fit and finish of the interior. Never did get a DB9.

(And I don’t like any recent Ferraris... except maybe the Roma)
