Hi,

Has anyone ever attempted to build / buy a custom lift for their garage.

I'm out of space at the moment and I am considering adding 2 new cars to my garage next year.

My garage is very very tight and all of the lifts I see online are too big to fit in my garage.

I was thinking that a metal fabricator might be able to build a neat lift, that you can manually wind / crank up and down. I don't mind if it takes 30 mins to put the lift up and down manually as long as it can hold the weight of a car above another car safely and securely :-)

Has anyone ever explored the custom build route before?

Pretty sure they shoul dbe able to modify on eof their standard "ordinary" lifts to do what you want and I'm sure Ihave seen some pics of a very tight installation.

Might be easier to get a fabricator to modify an " off the shelf" lift - I have a Twin Busch 2 car parking lift and it would be pretty easy to cut that down in both length and width and shorten the lift cables to suit. Might affect the warranty thou...lol

I’m in a similar situation with space but have placed an order for one of these to be dropped adjacent to one of the outbuildings. Will have external wood cladding to match the other buildings.

I am not sure if this will help but i spent some time looking for a small four poster lift and got one from SJR Garage Supplies.
It is just big enough to fit a TR on it and the ramps are only about 10cm thick. It can be moved around as required so you can locate it precisely. It was enough for me to get two cars into a single garage with a sloped roof.
If you find a manual lift I'd be interested as i could do with one for another location.

I have 5 four post lifts (albeit the full sized ones) from SJR and 1 two post lift in my garages at home. been in between 5 and 8 years and no problems at all. Highly recommended.

Just to add that on mine i bought a bracket such that the reservoir etc sat within the footprint of the platform.
