Ferrari's Q3 results
Discussion
That's a very interesting insight and one I've not heard before, perhaps b/c they've been there since 1949 or 1950?
I partially agree as personally the endurance cars "do it" for me much more than the current F1 cars which leave me cold.
Watching a bit of Lemans the last 3-4 years, a constructor like Ferrari might get more air-time if they challenged in 'halo' LMP1 or the organizers cut the categories down to 3 instead of 4. Ferrari feels buried in GTPro and GTAM with AM, Porsche, Vette etc.
One cool aspect of the GTE is that the public see more than one of your designs race b/c there's a rule the AM teams have to use last year's whereas the Pros use the current model - so a F8 and a 488 in road terms (ok they didn't field the F8 but that's another story). From a consumer POV this is good because you see the latest model and can lust after that if you're rolling in it, or can lust after the older model if slightly more impecunious.

Ferrari doesn't need F1 any longer.
The hybrid rules were geared up to suit Mercedes in any case.
Ferrari could just compete in Le Mans and still shift bucket loads of street cars
Ferrari already sells all the cars they can make so don't need LeMans to boost sales any further. The hybrid rules were geared up to suit Mercedes in any case.

Ferrari does need F1 though as in a decent year it is a major profit contributor for them.

In financial terms, a profitable year in F1 is probably cancelled out by the lean years, of which there have been many. Schumacher obviously changed that but they have been in decline pretty much ever since.
Of bigger consequence is the reputational damage by languishing near the back of the grid.
Lamborghini withdrew from F1 and was the better for it.
The slowest cars in F1 are Ferrari powered.
FIA development freezes meant that Mercedes are always ahead. Their street Truck turbo department was part of their PU advantage.
