AMG GT R
I’ve changed the question, as the original ones been done before. What are people views on this car, is it worth the premium over the standard or the S?
In that case, it's a lot wider, firmer, louder and raw. I’ve changed the question, as the original ones been done before. What are people views on this car, is it worth the premium over the standard or the S?

I've got an s and love it but it's my main car. Couldn't live with an r as a daily but it is an awesome car.
I haven't had or driven another variant, but have the GT-R. The noise is what does it for me, every time. It can be a perfectly civilised car to drive on the motorway or wherever, not too loud, comfortable enough etc... but you also can press the buttons to make it wholly uncivilised and brutally quick.
The thing that has impressed me most about it has been the constant power delivery as you're accelerating. There's no let off at any point and it really feels like its pushing you along (slightly conflicted with that statement given the massive bonnet in front full of engine, and the enormous fat wheels behind you, which you're more or less sat over). It is slightly bizarre when I park it next to other cars because of the length of the bonnet and you have to be quite aware of it when parking.
I've found it to be a big head-turner too. That maybe because I like to drive it in a rather louder mode than subtle and discreet. I took it out for a spin yesterday - I was just popping to Waitrose officer, honest... - and certainly at the traffic lights the rather attractive blonde in lycra, baseball cap etc... (all very cliched, but true - and to be said in full Terry Thomas voice) seemed rather impressed.
Anyway, I really love it. It's different to other cars I own and I feel like I've got a great mix and this sits nicely in amongst them, and has its place.

The best car I've owned was a RS6 with a miltek exhaust, what I enjoyed most about it was pops and bangs from the over run, it just makes you laugh. Must admit I've never seen a AMG GT R on the road. Looking at the dimensions its a lot wider than a R8 or Huracan, not sure it will fit in the garage. The thing that has impressed me most about it has been the constant power delivery as you're accelerating. Actually it's not that much bigger - it's about 2 inches longer and maybe an inch or so wider, one you allow for the wing mirrors being out (I could look it up in guess... :-)) but I'm equally careful with them both when putting them away in the garage. Its worth saying that I did have the garage built and measured to fit almost anything that I could comprehend going in there. Nevertheless, I think in hindsight another 6 inches would be comfortable (matron!) next time around.

They look mega on the road. Pictures dont do them justice IMO.Saw a Dark metallic blue one growling through Penrith and a Matt Grey (launch edition?!) down shifting towards me... Love them.

AMG GT R
I’ve changed the question, as the original ones been done before. What are people views on this car, is it worth the premium over the standard or the S?
You forgot the GT C which sits between the S and the R. I’ve changed the question, as the original ones been done before. What are people views on this car, is it worth the premium over the standard or the S?

I like the R very much, because from a styling perspective I think the rear end is better with the fixed spoiler than the C,S or base GT. It is also an animal.
ETA: I could not give a stuff if a car is widely accepted to be a Supercar, Sports Car or whatever. If I like the car, I like the car.
I had one of these on an extended test drive for a weekend and if i'm honest I found it quite boring, no real drama and with the standard lift and shift merc interior you could have been in any of their AMG models.
The poster above talks about the constant power as one of his favourite points. My view was the opposite, it felt like it had one gear, the changes are beyond seamless, no excitement.
Not taking anything away from the owner above, everyone likes different things.

Has anyone any experience of these compared with a .2 GT3 as they are similar money? I like both but saw a green hell GT-R last summer and it looked incredible!
They look awesome but I haven’t driven one ,but have driven the regular gt on multiple occasions and I didn’t like it ,but I’m generally not a fan of cars with multiple configurations (gearbox/steering etc modes) and I found it too wide for me to feel comfortable on the roads near me (narrow country roads) but other folk don’t have those issues so you really need to try one yourself .I have a gt3 and it is fantastic ,but everyone is different and when spending such a sum I would always suggest trying everything you fancy before deciding .

Should've driven it with the paddles. If you drive these in 'auto' mode then they are inevitably less engaging (auto and comfort is really quite uneventful), as with any car (in my experience) that is driven that way. But, using the paddles, putting it in Sport+, getting a bit more on the exhaust...brings with it the drama. The poster above talks about the constant power as one of his favourite points. Having had other AMG models, sure there are similarities, but I don't think you can exactly be surprised by that. After all, every Audi / BMW / Toyota / ...etc...is going to have similarities in respect of their interiors, as its part of the signature of the brand.

Yeah, Does the GT3 Have a vastly different dash/console to the boggo Carrera??Having had other AMG models, sure there are similarities, but I don't think you can exactly be surprised by that. Looks superb in that spec, it really does. Not sure whether it’s value or not (not the cheapest, not the most expensive?). From a distance it’s clear these have not performed well in the market and that won’t improve, ever. If you want to do a deal, make them an offer. What’s the worst they can say....no movement in price apparently.
