Hi

My Gallardo has the 3 stage Giallo Midas Pearlescent Paint.

I've done a bit of searching and from what I've found in the forum, apparently any scratch that cannot be touched in will require the entire panel painting. Due to the nature of the Pearlescent finish.

That could be a whole door, whole bonnet etc. With that in mind, I just wondered the costs involved in doing that? Also, was it a success.

If anyone could be kind enough to share costs of respraying Pearlescent paintwork, that would be appreciated.

Touch Up Paint Provider?

I do have some stone-chips that require touching in. Having had a bad experience previously buying touch up paint, I would appreciate recommendations for a supplier not touch up paint.

Thanks.

I had a deep scratch on the side of of my bumper of my previously owned Giallo Midas Gallardo, the chap who repaired it blew it into the corner of the bumper, he charged £240 including vat for a small area, you would could not tell it has been painted whatever way you looked at it, the painter is a Swansea based company so maybe a bit far out for you- for anyone who says it can’t be done, a photo is attached.

Touch up sticks are absolutely awful for chips on pearlescent paint I have found. I’ve tried loads and it’s looked terrible every time, i can’t recommend any I’m afraid- sorry!

Wow - that was crazily cheap. Good on the painter for not charging "Lambo Tax"

I would be keen to hear of other experiences, as I am guessing yours is more so the exception, rather than the general rule. I paid more for a wheel arch scrape on my old Aston.

No idea on cost but recommend Paint Tec based in Bristol > https://www.facebook.com/paint.tecbristol/

The owner is a petrolhead and has a McLaren 570S.

They recently resprayed my Can Am Spyder from White to McLaren Volcano Orange. They did a fantastic job.

Be careful regarding painting a panel, a slight variant in colour will show up. A panel needs blending in to the surrounding panels. If you've got a few scratches that need touching up I would get a spray can made up from your colour code, shake well and spray some into the lid of the can, using a piece of kitchen tissue rolled up at the end to a point, use it to apply the paint to the scratch, a droplet on the end of the tissue can help fill any deep part of a scratch.

I had a quote for McLaren Volcano Orange - think it was for the bonnet and a couple of other panels, and that was ~£4,500 - but obviously I was restricted to McLaren approved bodyshops. Seemed quite hefty - I had the entire front of my 360 painted, plus rear bumper repaired and painted a few years back (perfect job) and it was 1/3rd of that. (Riviera Autobody if you're anywhere near them - highly recommended).

Fortunately, McLaren were happy to pay for my entire car to be repainted (still not entirely sure why!) - I dread to think what it is costing, but at least there are no colour match problems.
