DeTomaso Pantera - A supercar of its era? Photos
Discussion
I've uncovered the following whilst isolating. The photos are from a combined Lamborghini Owners Club and DeTomaso owners meeting at Castle Combe on 23/04/1988.
There seemed to be shared mutual respect between the brands, so I'm assuming that the Pantera was also a supercar of the era.
Sighting of a Pantera seems to be super rare, are any of the following still in existence?

I remember meeting a chap who had bought one of these. Must have been around 1997 or so when I met him and he ran a cattery in Botley, Hants. He was very into his cars and also had a GT40 in red (original) as well as a replica GT40 in brown. He disliked anything with an Italian engine as his view was that the running costs for cars that were rarely used would be too much, so he favoured the exotic looking cars with Ford engines.
His Pantera was red if I remember correctly and carried the number plate 500 FAB or FAB 500 - I can't remember which. I seem to recall he paid £20k for the car, including the plate, only a few years before that. Given I had stupidly paid about £19k for an MGF around the same time I recall thinking it was about the same price. Be interested if there are any photos of the car. Seem to recall his name was Gavin, a former police man from South Africa.

I think an early car and 100k in my pocket would do.

Here's my pre L 1972, fresh from a 4 year modification/restoration. 500+hp, C-4 Leather swathed interior, flush glass, FUEL INJECTION! (thank goodness), new respray, a missile powered go cart with ferocious sound 6" behind your head. I much prefer the early cars without the flared fenders or Countach wing of the later GT5 cars.
NIJ5250, later 500FAB and now AGT379W is a well known car in the owners club. Originally owned by Phil Stebbings who started the De Tomaso Drivers Club back in the 80s and drove the car extensively on circuit including Castle Combe. It had a race engine in his ownership but since converted back to a Windsor spec V8. I owned the car a couple of years back - photo as below

That’s the one! Small world. I remember first seeing it at a fairly nondescript bungalow with a large double garage out front and then a huge warehouse building out the back. Gassing Station | Supercar General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
