Really depends upon where you are based/ how much you want to drive (or not) UK end / French end.
For me it’s Brittany Ferries, Portsmouth - Caen on the late crossing (10.30pm’ish from memory) with a cabin.
Get on boat, have a few beers and banter, a nice sleep, refreshed ready for early morning drive through France, probably avoiding toll-routes!

I see you’re Midlands based (as I used to be) so no problem for any of the south coast ports.
Brittany have been very good on all my previous jaunts with them and no problems encountered, I’ve always found them helpful/considerate when low slung sports cars have to be boarded - but they, as with any ferry company, can’t really control the quality of all their passengers with respect to opening/closing doors/getting belongings from their vehicles etc on the car decks.
I guess, like parking in a supermarket car park, we’re all a bit concerned about what/who will park around us and how careful/respectful they’ll be or not!
Having done various ferries/journeys for LM (including Dover - Calais) my preference now is Portsmouth - Caen as after overnighting on the ferry you arrive early next morning and can have a decent (and not too long - but long enough) drive to LM taking in some great French roads and countryside with plenty of options for a nice breakfast stop or whatever.
Agreed, CLM really is a great event and always look forward to it.
