Supercars driving the Isle of Man TT circuit.
Discussion
One of the guys in the McLaren Owners Club UK has just posted this up on the club forum.
It’s a video of a recent trip to the Isle of Man as part of the S9 Supercar Club. They had the enviable pleasure of driving the circuit.

The actual mountain section, although no speed limit, is short and 2 way traffic unless it's TT week. Certainly not worth a trip over there for it. The rest of the 'circuit' is pretty much speed limited everywhere and a lot of it through towns and villages. Being public roads, there i a lot of traffic from cyclists to tractors to mums on the school run. Would be very frustrating in a supercar to be honest.
Better off going down to northern Spain/Pyrenees on the 24hr ferry, much better roads, smoother, longer 50/60km+ of twisty sections, no police, little traffic.
ETA: I've just noticed that the mountain was one way, makes a difference but you'd get bored very quickly.
Better off going down to northern Spain/Pyrenees on the 24hr ferry, much better roads, smoother, longer 50/60km+ of twisty sections, no police, little traffic.

Well I live on the Isle of Man and have a few nice toys to enjoy. Rest assured it is a nice place to be with a supercar. Yes the derestricted parts are relatively short but plentiful if you know where to go. We have no speed cameras, no car crime and a fairly tolerant attitude.
Like almost everywhere we all share our public highways; cyclists, horse riders, walkers, car drivers, tractors you name it we have it all. We all coexist in harmony and us petrol heads are all part of the mix, thankfully without the persecution of the UK.
The TT course itself is almost all speed limited all the year round with the exception of the mountain section which is derestricted. However during the TT fortnight the mountain is also made one way, cyclists and walkers are banned, it is heavily policed and it’s jolly good fun. This is to reduce the number of fatalities caused by head on collisions. You often have to queue in Ramsey at the start, which just heightens the anticipation and once clear off you go, as per the OP video. There is quite a long drive back round via the coast road for another “lap” but what’s not to like?
Another quirk of the Island is the willingness to close bits of the roads for Motorsport events. It is quite easy to get a road closing order for tarmac stage rallies, hill climbs, or even just a magazine road test. Try doing that in the UK. Gratuitous vid of me trundling up the Sloc in my Elise on an organized event for fast cars to drive closed roads. Turn up in the morning, drive up and down the Sloc a few times and then back to work. Great day.

There are loads of downsides as well, bloody ferry travel for one! However I love it here.

I've heard it was great fun. I intend to do it next year in the 720. Scratch it off my bucket list.Like almost everywhere we all share our public highways; cyclists, horse riders, walkers, car drivers, tractors you name it we have it all. I completely agree. Lamborghini Club UK visited IOM for a driving tour there and it was a blast. Some of us hit the mountain early doors and it was brilliant. True Motorsport loving island. The locals were lovely and really enjoyed the cars. We cant wait to go back. Take a look at our video and make your mind up about the roads! https://www.facebook.com/VisitIsleofMan/videos/the...jilap said:

The sloc is a fantastic road. With the exception of a few very early mornng runs I avoid the mountain over the TT fortnight, it's generally always closed and mostly full of wannabe racers. Like almost everywhere we all share our public highways; cyclists, horse riders, walkers, car drivers, tractors you name it we have it all.
