Hi All,

Just looking to take the plunge and doing my homework on the following

Audi R8 V10 Spyder, Manual (2010 - 2011)
Ferrari F430 F1 (2005 - 2007)
Porsche 911 3.8 Carrera 4S, Manual (2008 - 2011)
Mercedes AMG GT (2015 - 2016)

The heart is saying go for it on the Prancing Horse, The head is saying think running costs and everyday motoring so the 911......, My 23yr old son is saying the Merc or Audi and dont be an old man......

Budget around 70k and setting aside around 3k per year for servicing etc.....

Views welcome from any owners and your experiences.....?

You are getting into McLaren territory there.

McLarens...They require a £5+k a year warranty. If the manufacturer/dealership would even be willing to offer it. If not, you're left praying for parts should you need any.

That's why they are so cheap second hand.

EDIT: above might be incorrect, speak to Thorney Motorsports

Been and viewed a few with the exception of a 430........and so far have enjoyed all 3 but obviously for different reasons hence wondering what the views of current owners were...

R8 - Loved the sound, loved the manual box, like the looks
AMG GT - Sound again, love the looks, see less on the roads and get much younger model for my budget
911 - Love looks, like the manual, Most on theroads however the can hear my son going no no no no no........

430 - Keep thinking about but also thinking am i being realistic with running costs.....hence not been to view or drive.....

Very happy to hear otherwise. Just reporting what I've heard from specialists.

Is there a recognised independent? I'd be happy to have a chat with someone.

A great position to be in and great to have a choice.

Get the Ferrari because..... it's a Ferrari. It's special. It's different. It has an aura that the others don't.

I've nothing against R8's (never had one, never desired one but did think about getting one a few years ago but didn't) and nothing against Porsche's (had 2, a 996 Turbo and a 987 Spyder) but can't see me getting another. Never thought about a Merc (think I must be too young).

Anyhow.... that's my vote for the Fezza.

Lol at 47 my sons thinking i need something slower as originally i'd ordered an A45s (Due Early Dec) but he's going to have that so hence a larger more fully bodied grown up sports car

The Merc May be the newest but it’s also likely to depreciate the most.

F430s can be looked after by good independents quite reasonably (within your annual 3k budget)

Just make sure that the car you buy has had the manifolds replaced and beware that suspension ball joints are consumables - though if they’ve been replaced with hill engineering parts then they last a lot longer.

Of all the cars you’re looking at, the F430 will sound the best, especially with an X-pipe exhaust (Kline do a good one).

I challenge anyone not to smile at the sound of this;

Better than any macca...

Have you considered a Ferrari California, a lot more modern and usable than a 430

I was in a similiar position earlier in the year. Had the usual list of Fez, Lambo, Aston etc...

I didn't even consider a Mac. Stumbled across a 570S on the Aston Martin forecourt (part-ex they had taken against a Vanquish) which caught my eye. Visited the Mac Dealership in Bristol and was overhwelmed by the handling, rate of pace, comfort and looks. No Mac (or turbo'd car) is going to compete with a NA Fez for the sound, but it will top-trump it in every other area. Fez fans will always talk about the 'sound' but it can be mostly remedied by an after-market exhaust from Thorney Motorsport or Larini etc.. You can even have flames if it floats your boat.

And its party trick......

If you park the Mac alongside any of the other usual suspects, it would have crowds around it. The others would feel lonely. I've seen it happen.

Except the one critical area: 'how does it make you feel'....? Lots of people get more pleasure from owning a ferrari due to it being a ....ferrari
