Morning PH'ers,

I've put my Cayman GT4 up for sale and have been offered a AMG GTR with the track pack but minus the premium pack and ceramic brakes for a decent price (compared to current for sale prices). I've test driven another GTR minus the track pack and loved the noise and presence of the car.

However, I was originally in the market for a 570s which is a different driving proposition and feels like a proper supercar but doesn't sound as good as most in this bracket.

The fly in the ointment is neither car will fit in the garage and will have to live outside until I go through the aggro of getting planning permission to sort the garage issue out. Also, either car will be a daily driver covering upto 6k miles per year.

This leads me to a few questions:
1) What is the 570S like as a daily driver and can it handle being kept outside in all weathers? The engine cover is just a mesh and we have loads of trees, etc in the vicinity.
2) I'll look to use either car on the track a few times a year. Has anyone used either on track and how did the car fare?
3) Resale - Both cars have lost a bit off their original list price but Mclaren's seem to be dropping quickly. Do people expect them to depreciate more than similar cars or the GTR over the next 2-3 years?

Thanks all.

Unless the current string pullers at McLaren change their MO, residuals will continue to drop quicker than a tv thrown from a top floor window.

I also hear Mc are to be knocking out 20+ new models over the next 5 years.
Is this correct ?

1. Both will survive outside, I know of a couple of daily driver 570s, beyond the usual niggles no issues due to miles etc.
2. Both will thrive on a track, the GTR was designed for this purpose.
3. Both are likely to be worth about 40k less in 3 years times (perhaps a little less or a little more), assuming a good value used one is bought.

The cheapest 570s is about £100k now, I think £40k depreciation on them in 3 years is probably a bit high!

That's ok then. Will help keep the brand exclusive.

A 6-year-old 570s will be around £60k, so comes down to what you pay today.

One of the club members dug into this as it is often touted as a reason to knock McLaren.

Rough new or refreshed models for 2011 to 2019

McLaren : 19
Ferrari : 21
Porsche : 22
Lambo : 19

As with others, many new model McLarens are just variants on existing ones with same carbon tub etc.

Op the GTR is an excellent car and arguably more suited to daily duties over the Mclaren. I never had any faults with any of my Mercedes and unless the paint is magno it will fair better in the elements.

As per the spec you have been offered, personally I think it’s flawed. Having the track pack without the premium makes rear visibility an issue. Also I didn’t like the steels on the GTR, I found the limit very quickly and specificied mine with ceramics which offer phenomenal braking performance.

I really can’t see a 570s being worth just £60k in 3 years.

6 to 8 year old 12c's today, are worth between £65k and £75k (I know as I have been offered 3 in the past two weeks), these are well looked after, well spec'ed cars, 2 have months of factory warranty left.

A 570s, is worth about 15% less than the equivalent super series car, therefore what will an early 570s be worth in 3 years time when it's 7 years old ? (Private sale/ trade in).
