I'm looking for recommendations of a good supplier to replace the leather on the steering wheel of my car for alcantara.
Anyone had any good experiences, ballpark costs?

Is removing the steering wheel a straightforward job or best left to experts?

I used royalsteeringwheels and they were absolutely brilliant.

Not sure how difficult a job it is on your car but the ones I've taken off have been a piece of piss - just don't switch the ignition on with the airbag removed

You'll read some replies saying that you should disconnect the battery but I honestly think this is not necessary

It's a McLaren 570 so don't want to get the removal process wrong rotate

It's fundamentally the same process irrespective of car.

Maybe ask Mclaren to remove it and keep it at their place until you have it back from the trimmers? That's what I did with my Evora (although I have since removed the steering wheel on that since)

Not so much in the last week or two, they're all away on their school holidays, next week it'll be doom and gloom again for all Mac owners.

Never you mind

Alcantara on a steering wheel isn't the best idea. It goes really smooth, dirty and just looks a mess. Stick with a leather one.

I used royal steering wheels for my 997.1. Highly recommended. I also got my handbrake and gaiter done at the same time.

Another who used Royal, and who wouldn't hesitate to recommend then, they covered the grey leather steering wheel on my 570s in black alcantera, and the workmanship is simply perfect.

I took the wheel off myself although releasing the air bag isn't easy, or for the faint hearted, lots of probing through the little hidden holes in the back to release the springs. Undoing the centre nut is easy in comparison lol.

A few people have mentioned Royal on here and elsewhere on line, care to say how much it cost? Looks a good job so won't be cheap I wouldn't think.

Cost wise, you're better speaking to them direct as the cost is dependant on materials, stitching and who is taking off the wheel. Budget circa £200 to £300 as a guide.

As above, highly recommended thumbup
