It's not as simple as that.

I'm sure you'd expect a dealer to prepare the car properly and offer you an expensive warranty on such a car?

They also have wages and premises to pay for.

For what its worth they might have done you a favour, there are at least 1/2 dozen V10, R8, Manual cars for sale, between £48k and £55K so i'm not sure you need to even spend your £63K.

Hope you find what your looking for.

All deals having various factors pertinent to that specific car, making each deal unique.

In this case, how do you know they hadn't already turned down an offer of £64k? They might have had 10 enquiries and several visits from serious buyers?

Game of poker really, need to judge each deal on its own merits. Certainly a buyers market though, just need to find a car that suits you and a deal that suits the seller.

This car was with the dealer for about 14 months before it sold. I got another car a year ago it just struck me as a cheap trick to advertise for similar cars at 10k less

They are not making an offer of £55,000; they've reduced the figure on that particular advert to get it higher on listings and widen their audience.

You do realise that one warranty issue on a car of that nature could wipe out any profit completely don't you.
Why haven't you purchased a couple of them yourself , a quick jetwash as you put it, and marked them up by 10k and sold them on?
Let us know how you get on won't you?.

Certainly a buyers market though, ....
Its slowly edging that way.
There are many dealers refusing to accept the downturn in the 2nd hand car market and are seemingly happy to display cars for long periods of time on forecourts.
But buyers are also becoming much more aware that many cars are now overpriced, and they are happy to play the waiting game instead of spill their money all over the dealers desk.

So its slowly edging more towards a buyer's market.
And slowly is a good thing to be honest, if you are looking for a new motor, because too fast and it would mean demand plays a force to maintain over-priced cars.
At the moment however, given the chats I've had with a few of my dealership friends, is that many sellers are becoming desperate to sell. And its the cheaper private sales that will bring down dealership prices.

I have the same car with 14k miles and paid that price from a dealer. I actually think the 1st generation V10 manual cars will hold their values in a few years they might even go up slightly so now is a good time to strike a deal.

You could possibly be right. Unfortunately for me though, I bought my 2010 V10 manual just over two years ago. Patience never was one of my strongest traits.

I'm confused...

Are you saying that the car linked in the OP isn't actually being sold for the price listed, and that if you phone up you'll be told it's actually £65k instead?

£10k doesn't sound like a bad spread considering the car. Also not every car they buy in will be as described, or won't have hidden issues that eat into that spread. Then you've got warranty, staff costs etc and you know actually wanting to make a profit to make it even worth doing.

This.

PH Classified are full of these types of listings too actually, which pisses me off no end. Those and the 'wanted ads' with a price approx 60% of the value of whatever you're looking at so that they appear first when selecting show 'low to high'.

fking wkers.

Thanks DR G that was the point I was trying to make. I didn't need to hear about the business side of things and the factors behind it. it all amounts to cheap tactics no matter how you dress it up.
