599 vs FF choices
Discussion
Thinking about changing my 599 (epic) for FF as prices converging quickly. I like four seat Ferraris and seen a few good FF reviews on-line. Has anyone done this trade? Would appreciate your thoughts and what I need to keep in mind about the FF and am I being daft? First world dramas...

Changed my 599 for an FF a little over 2 Years ago. My decision was based on wanting a nice car we could go to the pub in with the dog and my 599 had hit 29k miles and with mileage sensitivity I was worried about where the value might go with another 4- 5k miles a Year599 is as you know epic in performance terms and a very focused drivers car plus I think they look fantastic, the FF is a generation on and it shows in the fit and finish, it rides a good bit better than the FF and is extremely easy to drive, if anything it's a bit too normal and could easily be used as an everyday car, it goes extremely well but unlike the lithe and explosive 599 the FF takes a bit more effort to extract the performance

Is that really so? I certainly don't doubt you if you have owned both but seems a little odd when they both have identical 3.7s 0-60 times and the FF has 50 odd more BHP... I'm guessing I'm missing something?599 is as you know epic in performance terms and a very focused drivers car plus I think they look fantastic, the FF is a generation on and it shows in the fit and finish, it rides a good bit better than the FF and is extremely easy to drive, if anything it's a bit too normal and could easily be used as an everyday car, it goes extremely well but unlike the lithe and explosive 599 the FF takes a bit more effort to extract the performance
FF still the best car I have ever owned. Now about to 60k km (close to 50k of that myself)
Just drove from Munich to Salzburg again yesterday - dog in the back, below zero degress - no drama. 4-wd is awesome too once there is snow on the roads again (be careful going downhill on snow/ice though as it is a heavy car on relatively wide tyres)
In terms of acceleration - it is fast enough imo - the acceleration from say 150 to 250-260 is quick enough. Much faster and I'd probably be nervous in terms of increase of speed/acceleration vs. cars you are approaching - will need to drive a 720s at some point to see how a properly fast car feels
Gearbox is iffy though, so I'd recommend a warranty

thank you for the thoughtful replies. with a wife and two kids plus the dog the FF is looking like a good decision. The spec and colour combos seems to vary quite a bit on the FF (599 is black/black with carbonzone and yellow stitching - big fan) and even seen some chocolate brown interior version? Anything in particular driving values between same year/mileage cars ie are there must have extras vs waste of money options...

Hi Jake, I suspect if you grabbed the FF by the scruff of the neck and really bullied it it would make the same numbers but it doesn't come naturally to the nature of the car and the 599 is an utter rocket ship, I once gave an ex Dutch airforce pilot a ride and going down a slip road on to the M11 he reckoned it was faster accelerating than his F16 I once joked that you should definitely spec the leather headlining as you spend a lot of time looking at it as your neck is snapped back under acceleration If you can get a ride in one you'll see what I mean

I'm not sure theres much between the model years, late 2012 on had the option of the panorama roof which is nice but far from essential, mine doesn't have it and the cabin is plenty airy enough. Not sure of when (2015?) the entertainment / nav system was upgraded (earlier one is pretty pants!) and I think a few other bits.I think the usual Led wheel, shields, ideally forged wheels will help values
