So come on then. Who thinks this is awesome?

Impressive, but hardly a game-changer. It's just a small development of the McLaren P1, LaFerrari, 918 technology.
The reality is that it won't have any real link to the AMG F1 engines, that's just marketing fluff. You can be sure if AMG / Mecedes had a car at Le Mans, this Project One would be using 'Le Mans winning technology'....

It's has a derivative of an F1 engine. The last car to do that was the F50 and with respect that was rather more watered down than this. The drivetrain on this is nothing short of epic IMO. No, despite the hype and headlines the concept is only based around an F1 type engine. The difference between a production ready AMG Project ONE, and anything raced by the F1 team will be even more watered down than the F50. Modern F1 technology is so eye wateringly advanced that engines are only designed to last 1/5 of a season, not many hypercar owners will accept that level of life expectancy will they. The Surveyor said:

That's probably a good thing, as it won't take 45 mins to start the bloody thing.WCZ said:
the next wave of low volume hypercars are insane, ferrari etc won't be able to go anywhere near them
They're impressive technical exercises but I'd take the raw, visceral experience of a n/a, large capacity, 12 cylinder, challenging-to-drive-at-attainable-speeds '80s supercar over one of these every day.dang2407 said:

It's the actual thing.
Of course, certain elements have been modified to extend engine life but from what they've said, I expect it to be closer to a current F1 engine than, for example, the F50 was in it's era as that just carried a development of the F1 block IIRC.
Apparently the hybrid drive train and batteries weigh 520 kg all up. One could easily have a naturally aspirated 1000 bhp V12 drivetrain for less weight than that. I really struggle to see the point of these hybrids - so I'm writing them off as currently-fashionable PR exercises to promote hybrids lower down the manufacturers range.
30k mile engine life
I think they followed the F1 car template too slavishly. Push rod suspension etc.
They had the opportunity to break F1 rules for a road car, and use active suspension for example. And a proper road car engine, with longevity.
Even Aston's Valkyrie (with similar engine philosophy) has a 60k mile life, which is more acceptable. And their 003 will have a "normal" road car engine without requiring rebuilds/replacement. And fully active suspension on both, plus active aero to differing degrees.

Can't see many of them getting into 4 figure mileage let alone 30K. I think they followed the F1 car template too slavishly. Push rod suspension etc.
