I am looking to have a Lamborghini brought from Scotland to Portugal so I tried to get a quote on Shiply yesterday. I've had one single bid so far (£2800)

"my quote is for Enclosed Transport, visible by clicking on my user name. Please take into consideration the site has added thirty three per cent on top of my quote, their charges. Fully insured, OUR 100% feedback speaks for us. .Regards Alan "

33%, is that right? Seems expensive...

A little amateur sleuthing quickly takes me to the FB page of the transport company, so presumably I can contact them directly and they'd deal for £2100.

Is that a decent price for covered, insured transport from central scotland to south portugal? Happy to listen to suggestions if anyone has any.

Thanks

I would say yes, thats exactly what he was hinting at. Bit cheeky really.

We looked at driving but quickly ruled it out. Would be lucky to see any change out of £1000 on the fuel alone (3000km at 10mpg), before you even look at ferry, road tolls, tyres, 3000km extra on the car etc etc.

I'm not against spending a couple of days driving it, but not through England then the north of France biggrin

Worth a read.

I found, with Shiply, the longer you wait, the lower the quotes. The shippers seem to start high and then walk the price down.

Another alternative is to rent or buy (and resell on Ebay) your own car and trailer and selfdrive (or pay someone to do it). But be mindful of insurance and motorway thefts.

Thanks, I'm still sitting on one single quote from the company above and thats it. I've just done a little more digging and they seem to be in the process of being struck off. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/1013179...

Buying our own trailer won't work as I don't have a license that would allow me to tow, plus I'd never use it again anyway so I assume it'd be cheaper/less hassle to just hire someone as a one off.

If anyone has any suggestions feel free to PM me, I'd like to get the car out here in the next week or two.

I've been through this painful exercise. Shipley was a waste of time. The issue is the insurance. They simply don't cover the value you need to boomk a consignment haul, 4 cars, then its financially worthwhile, but forget stupilating times etc, as hold ups etc are a regular occurrence on route.

Phone 2 or 3 of the known supercar-storage firms, like Windrush.

They will all have a trailer + ~£1m insurance + employee, or know a man with a trailer, who will be able to trailer it safely down there.

At 1500-2000 miles, it's probably going to be circa ~£2k for one-way on a single trailer (£1 a mile + tolls).

Thanks, I'll try a few on Monday but was just wondering if anyone had any personal experiences to recommend from (or if there are any horror stories to avoid please pm me!)

According to Google maps its 1893 miles each way (via the Tunnel, no idea if Ferry would be viable?). Car value is £90k or so, perhaps most here won't see it as high value actually smile

You could try Menabue, they ship all the new Ferrari's and Lamborghinis throughout Europe, I've used them a few times now for my 458 and they're excellent.

Drop me a PM if interested and I'll forward the contacts email address

There have been similar threads recently, so it'd be worth a search. I generally mention Iguana as he's on here. The guy that owns Saints Transport has a great covered truck, but it's not on their website.

You could consider driving and reduce road miles by sailing to Santander or Bilbao. Out of interest, what part of the Algarve will the car be destined for? I've a house in Carvoeiro so just wondered if it would be nearby.

I've used these folks loads of times although personally not for a car yet, always exceptionaly helpful.

Last time I was collecting in Almancil they were just unloading a Lamborghini.

I've had loads of cars transported down to Spain over the years with a few different companies.

The cheapest way is through a company who do a designated route (for example London - Algarve). You can get the car sent to their base, let’s say London (for example) with one company and then get the company who do that route all the time to take it over to Portugal. If you don't mind an open truck you could truck these guys
http://www.anchorvehiclelogistics.com/

Alternatively someone like Cars Europe would do that trip, in a enclosed truck. They collected a car from Monaco for me and took back to London. Think it was about £2k but I really can't remember.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want more advice.

This is another option. I drove my Phantom down through Spain back in May and took the Ferry to Santander (Also one to Bilbao). Took 19 hours and avoided France which saved miles on the cars & the French police's intolerance of speeding!

CARS were professional when quoting but circa £3k to get it to Geneva from Cardiff. Consignment haul cheaper, at half that, but they can't guarantee your car will turn up on time, so need to ship it a good few days earlier to gurantee it will be there to start your Alps thrash. They were clear on this, as the other cars in your haul can hold the whole thing up, client not there on time, wrong address , tunnel hold up etc.
