Hi,I have been a Lotus Esprit owner for the last 30 years (owned at least five)but after all these years have decided to put up for sale my last one and will be looking for an Audi R8.I am interested in one in Scotland but have never experienced one,is there any one who has one locally that could show me the ropes and take me for a spin in one as I don't fancy going all the way to Scotland to experience my first one.
I am fed up with my wife sighing when I ask her "shall we take the Lotus "
I have done some research and the R8 seems to be the best super car that you can use every day.I just need some advise and help.
Thanks Paul (espritmania)

Most people on this forum don't think the R8 is a supercar.

I consider a V10 to be better than many supercars I've owned over the years.

But then again I also considered the 1991 NSX I once owned to be a supercar so perhaps my definitions are wrong..

Isn't it based on a Gallardo?

Ah, I see what you mean.

I would advise you to get some advice.

I hate myself for that but couldn't help myself.

Ouch. Saying that I have noticed a lot more posts in the supercar section recently ref. maserati, jag, porsche, aston, audi etc. The odd model you would expect to see here (XJ220, GT, 918 etc) but it does seem to be getting a bit diluted.

Wouldn't it be easiest to find a dealer local to you and go for a test drive/ask questions there? Or post in the Audi section

Audi could come out with a P1 competitor...and it wouldn't be called a Supercar, because people have a thing against Audi rolleyes

There's an Audi showroom at cribs causeway near Bristol, and I'm sure I've seen R8s there for sale before. Try popping there (the missus will be happy as she can pop to the Mall afterwards). Make sure you go directly to the desk and ask to drive/look at the cars, otherwise you will stand around for hours and no one will approach you. They lost a Q7 sale, and later TTS sale, with me a couple years ago due to their lack of awareness and interest in me wandering about. I had arrived in a brand new RRS, so I should have looked at least a little like a serious buyer

I'd be going for the R8 to be honest, far more up to date tech, the V10 is a great engine, although I have no idea what r8s sell for as never been in the market for one myself.

Completely different cars that can't be compared really. One is an (albeit fast) GT that is very comfortable and a bit boring despite speed, the R8 is much nearer in character to your Lotus.

£50k for a mint manual coupe v8, around 67k for a mint manual coupe v10.

Sounds like quite good value to me on the V10. I think V8 for me wouldn't be considered, not much point in less than the full fat version, I think I would always be wondering what if?. £67k sounds pretty good for the gallardo engine in a car as well built as an Audi!

I think you'd love the R8. Either V8 or V10. They are everyday useable but superb to drive. look the part but don't cost stupid money to run.

Beautifully made and super reliable too.

Just found out that if the a/c unit packs up it's an engine out job.
