Maserati Quattroporte - feedback on the new diesel
Discussion
Hi - I'm looking at changing my daily driver to the new shape Diesel Quattroporte - anyone have any feedback on ownership, servicing costs, refinement ? Who supplies the diesel engine ? - assume the auto box is a ZF one.
Second hand prices seem to be stabilising.
Any must have options ?
Thanks
Prashan

I've driven the Ghilbi and the new QP in both 410PS petrol and 275PS diesel guise when my GranTurismo is in for a service(s).
I'm not sure what you are coming from but the QP is very big and, I feel, looks very stretched from the B to C pillar. The Ghibli, meanwhile, is a tad tight in the back. Personally I would want a Ghibli LWB or QP SWB if they made them!
Seriously, the QP is a great car to drive and has skyhook as standard which the Ghilbi does not and few buyers, strangely, bother to specify it. The gearstick can be hard to use as it is imprecise but there are few gripes other than that. They are both much better cars than the press has acknowledged.
As for engine, the diesel is what it is, sounds a bit gruff but plays tunes out of it's back boxes. MPG was low thirties from memory. Plenty of thrust too.
As you would expect me to say, the V6S petrol is miles better with a great sound, very strong mid range (bit of turbo lag as it's small) and mpg of about 24 IIRC. Longer service intervals on time (but not miles) too.
What sort of deals are out there?
PS Yes it's the ZF 8 speed auto you see everywhere these days.

Thanks - appreciate the feedback and concur with you on the size challenge with the two cars - Ghibli's seem to be around £40k and QP Diesels around £50k...one of two previous shape QP GTS's out there too.I'm not sure what you are coming from but the QP is very big and, I feel, looks very stretched from the B to C pillar. I saw this topic hoping for more input as I'm in a similar position regarding QP diesel, I want the car to be a comfortable cruiser for 4 people, I love the looks & image, plus prices are good value.
But finding input from owners is proving tough, I suspect because they are a rare car in the UK.
Is anybody out there ??? Did you end up buying one?

low £20ks for a Mk VI diesel QP is a lot of car for the money, but other than OK (but not great) fuel economy running costs will not be low
The same engine in the Ghibli starts at £15k and is a better looking car.
However while my own irrational self was perfectly happy to have a F-series 330d as a family wagon, I could not countenance a diesel Ghibli and bought the V6S. To be fair BMW do make great 6-pot oil burners, but I never even bothered checking out the Maserati equivalent, which is a slightly tweaked version (about 20 hp more) of the lump found in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not exactly the thing to be discussing in the Supercar forum!!

The diesel is smooth, quiet, but in reality doesn’t suit it, I test drove one and couldn’t wait to return it. And I brought on the EML….I now have a Petrol powered Ghibli. The same engine in the Ghibli starts at £15k and is a better looking car.
