I've been watching the chasing classic cars tv show for a bit now and they had a lovely 250 GT lusso on there.

It never sold at auction.

Just out of intrest how much do they sell for over here?
Are they any where near the price of a 250 GTO?

I think it was a silver/grey one he may have painted it though.
I'll watch the episode again.

Both cars in the links above are gorgeous.

A good average for a 250 GT Lusso is about £500k. For that you will get a nice car, certainly not concours but very presentable. If you could find one £300k might get you a car in need of a full restoration, but these are rare now. £650K + for a very nice example

It seems they should sell for a LOT more, or am I thinking of the 250 SWB?

I would say that was accurate 6 months ago, but not now.

Seriously!!! I know a couple of cars were being punted out at that level but I did not think they sold. A know of a couple of nice cars at the price point I indicated that have been for sale for a long time now. TT9 do you have any confirmation that a Lusso has sold at £850K, excluding the McQueen car of course?

I shot this car for DK last week, and I know it had sold very quickly for a sum in the vicinity of numbers mentioned by TT9.

Spectacular in Metallic Blue Chiaro, which really seems to enhance the lines....

Saying that I'd feel much more comfortable paying 850k for a Lusso than purchasing a Dino at current prices

Now this is all very interesting. About a year ago I had I had a very friendly argument with a dealer over this truly spectacular Lusso that had gone through a very major restoration in New Zealand. It was probably the best I had ever seen and I had a seen a few. At the time he wanted £795K for the car which I thought was silly money as other very good cars were selling at that time for about £600k - £650k for a concours winner.

The Lusso at the time were not increasing in value at the same speed as say a 275 GTB/4 and some were predicting that the values would be dragged up as 275's started to hit the million pound mark. If what you are saying is true TT9 that would seem to be the case.

Oh this is what it looked like during its restoration

Modena Motosports have had this concours example for sale almost a year now but for some reason it has not sold. I have no idea about its history but it sounds and looks good:

Streetrod, that is a stunning combination colour-wise. Looks very pretty. I guess my feeling is that the Lusso has always been somewhat depressed value-wise given it's relationship to the SWB. But with the low production numbers and it's sheer beauty I can imagine values performing relatively well going forward.

My view is that we're undergoing a bit of a bubble in these cars, something that could probably push much further into more dangerous territory. At the moment I think it's not serious, although I'd welcome a 'healthy' 20-30pct correction as I think that would stabilise growth for the medium to longer term. My concern for Dino's is that they're a bit underpowered and build it relatively large numbers, in any type of major correction I'd see these cars getting hit the hardest (on a percentage basis).

TT9 I agree with every thing you say above. I would love to see a correction in the market as things are getting a little out of hand at the moment. The Dino market as you say seems to have an unsustainable momentum at the moment. When you factor in currency fluctuations this looks even worse.

One of my favourite cars below sold in Nov 2011 for £2 million at auction before fees. That same car has been on sale with a USA dealer since the end of last year having not travelled a single mile on the road since being sold in London. The price now is £3 million. Again the dealer seems to think it is a bargain. This kind of price inflation cannot continue at this rate
