Saw a red Ferrari F40 just outside Manchester last Saturday.

It's registration plate was PG51, then three letters (Not sure if it's good form to post the whole reg here)
I though maybe it was a kit newish car..
Had a quick look on a car check iPhone app. It says the car is a Ferrari, 2900cc, registered 21/02/2002.

Has this car been sat somewhere unregistered for 10+ years?

Probably. There is an "N" (1996) registered car too.

More likely it was imported to the UK in 2002 and in their wisdom the DVLA gave it a plate from year of import rather than manufacture

Indeed. When you look up the registration of the car in question on the DVLA website it says date of first regsitration 21/02/2002 but year of manufacture 1989. I happen to know it was previously in Belgium before coming to the UK (and was initially on a private plate in the UK) so I believe it shouldn't really have been given a 51 plate.

Some cars are never originally registered - I know of an unregistered Jaguar XJ220. If it were to be registered it would be on an 11 plate, presumably?

Thread resurrection

Saw this 51 plate F40 Manchester M60 in a traffic jam this evening. Spotted a corner of the rear end a few cars ahead.
Turned my radio off and dropped the windows.
Was behind me under a longish bridge. Even ticking over and crawling along sounded fantastic.

Made my evening. Very iconic car from my teens.

whoever it is has been driving it a lot recently, which is fantastic and so rare for f40's!

one of our engineers sent me this pic last week:

Can't remember the last time I saw one in the wild.

Nice guy driving it. Got a smile, thanks and thumbs up when I complimented the car as he crawled past (not something I would normally do).

My days, what a car to see out in the wild. Looks like something from another planet.

Chapeau to the owner smile
