Dripping Diff on 98 4.5
Discussion
I have seen the previous threads but would like to enquire more. The diff does not drip when stationary, but does get damp when been driven. The fluid seems to be coming from the right hand side of the diff and quite high up it. Is this where the breather / fiiller is? Some fluid is landing on and burning off the exhaust when moving .
Is topping up the diff a DIY job? If so where is the filler hole? Having seen the previous threads, how would I know if the diff already had too much fluid in it and was just throwing out the surplus? (wishful thinking here) . Is the breather a one way valve that can be replaced easily?

Best talk to a dealer - I seem to recall something about different diffs needing to be filled to different levels - in particular overfilling being an easy mistake on one model.
Also, if you drive off hard with the diff cold, it can chuck it out the breather - the diff needs some warming up just like the engine before being worked hard.
