Ah right, was that a back to the factory jobbie?
when you say engine rebuild does that mean they did other stuff or just repair the valve guide? Sorry for all the questions I'm trying to understand how expensive these things are to run.

Mycerbera - I am also interested in what you had done. Mine is going in soon as I have oil on a couple of plugs. This will mean engine out, heads off, heads repaired (probably valve seat probs), might also mean piston rings, clutch etc... So would be interested in what made up your bill!!!
Yes it was a factory jobbie! As all major AJP V8 work seems to be!
It had a loose Valve guide (don't know the reason for this yet) and so new guide, liners and rings were needed. They also replaced the Cams. Glazing was also a problem. Unfortunately the loose guide caused some damage to the Head and a new one was required!! (£1,000 alone)
As for how expensive these things are to run? Budget for the worst, as it usually happens!! (Although I'm thinking I have been rather unlucky) There are good ones around (like mine is now) and bad ones too (like mine was) Bottom line is you can't run them on a budget (like I thought I could - young and naive is my excuse!)

Did you have to fork out for this yourself or were you covered by any form of warranty cause that is a serious hole in the bank balance to cover! Gives me nightmares just thinking about it!
If you didn't have a warranty, can I ask why not? (no offence intended, just interested in the rationale)

Bought it private, so no warrenty. Got it cheap though, so even with new engine and all work done, I've still not paid dealer prices! I now have a sorted car with a TVR warrenty on the engine.
Running it in as if it were new, but need it done by TVR track day on 21st june, so still plenty of miles to go!

Are warranties really worth it??
I've just got my car back after about 4.5 months having bits and pieces fixed...(air con, cats/lambda sensors, wierd electrical problem, oil leak, new oil gauge, and many more things I can't think of right now)...cost about £4500.
The only thing Warranty Holdings payed for was £200 for a starting motor!

My view is that Warranty companies make a profit and so most of the time the warranty isnt worth it. But sometimes it might well be worth it!! If it is the type I have got (spirit extra) then it really is a very marginal benefit. The 'gold plated' warranties are very good but there are still catches. Despite all the drawbacks though I bought one as it still gives me a little peace of mind.
