Creaking form rear suspension
Discussion
Hello all,
I've got a creaking noise that's developed in the rear suspension (nearside I thnik). Handling is absolutly fine and a visual inspection doesn't show anything amiss. Dampers look OK and are dry and a quick spanner check suggests everyting is tight. There is no play in anything according to my crowbar test (very scientific but it works!!)I guess it could be a dry bush somewhere. Don't think it's the roll bar bushes because these were a problem on early 4.5's and when mine went 4 years ago the sound was very different and distinctive. Any ideas, anyone had the same problem, any fixes?
Regards
John

I had the same creaking noise it started to sound like an old matteress over speed bumps etc. It turned out to be spring sag. The spring settles over time to the point where is starts to rub on the damper body slightly, causing a squeaking noise. Look for shiney lines on the damper or patches where there is no dirt.
There are two cures or you may need a combination of the two. You can turn the springs or simply grease the damper body where it's rubbing. That's all mine needed. I did have to invent a mirror on a stick type tool to look round the back of the damper (hint).
Cheers, Steve
