Sports Exhaust
Discussion
I have a 97/4.2 with a sports exhaust and was hoping to attend the TVR Centre's track day at Bedford Autodrome in June.
Not being rich enough to take a risk on the entrance fee, I ran up to Bedford Autodrome for a noise test last week. The limits here are 101db (static), 87db (drive-by). I registered 106db (static ) but passed the drive-by (aided by a 30mph westerly blowing in my favour). The regulations state that the car must pass both tests (although the guy at Bedford seemed relaxed about the static test).
Demon Tweeks have offered a pair of clip-on mufflers for £98 that will give -3db (i.e. not enough). The TVR Centre suggested fitting a 2nd hand standard exhaust for the day. AdamB suggested earlier that "...internal 'traps' will [give] 6-8db on a good day, to go any quieter you need external cans which can take you up to 12db lower. You do risk damaging the Cats with back pressure if you go too OTT though."
For one or two track days a year, I need a solution that is relatively cheap, will guarantee I pass the noise tests, ideally I can fit myself at home (am not a mechanic but fairly handy with a spanner), won't risk damaging the car, and, of course, allows me - and the rest of my street - to enjoy my sports exhaust for the other 363 days of the year.
Would welcome advice (on what I imagine is a common issue).

Its me again, the master silencer, options are :-
Get a second hand standard exhaust, you can swap sports yourself to standard without ramps or a jack.
Get traps, as discussed
What I did, gat a 'Sports like' exhaust, looks like a sports exhaust (not transverse) but much tighter packed, cost me £240 but can be taken to the track in the boot and swapped on site. Got through Bedford last year OK and if need by you can add traps without the risk of damaging the cats.
I'll send pics / info if your interested.
Peninsula sports exhausts are what most of the dealers (and some specialists use) I believe. They also do cat replacement pipes or replacement fast flow replacement boxes
Speak to Richard as they will also repair / rebaffle your old box also they must have some old boxes lying around from cars that have had sports pipes fitted
Track day silencers that just slot in the end of the tailpipe of standard or sports pipes are available
I recently had replacement cat boxes stainless intermediate pipes and sports boxes on rear with slot in track day silencers that all work v well
