Had bad smell coming through the air vents a few weeks ago and temperature was hovering around the 105 mark. Then had thick smoke coming through the bonnet. The garage found that there was a leaking hose and leaking pressure cap. All fixed about 2 weeks ago incl chemical block test and fan test.

In the last few days, the temperature has been creeping up to the 90-95 mark gradually. But after about 95, it swings like a pendulum (up and down) between 95 and 110 (the max mark). On the motorway, it stays between 90 to 100.

In traffic today, it rose to 110 but I felt comfortable that the car was not overheating as the garage had just carried out the above repair and fan tests. As I approached home, it shot beyond 110 and into the oil pressure dial area for a few seconds before going back down to 105.

Is there a cause for concern ?

Know nothing of Cerbs YelloWCerb but does sound like a sender fault to me ... can you take it back and get them to check all the connectors etc?

Hope its OK – my heart would have been in my mouth tho"

Just had a problem of the same ilk with mine - I too was told it was a sender fault or dodgy gauge - I was in the oil press area all the time in traffic - finally overheating at BH on Monday last week.Check the thermostat plug and check if the fans are actually coming on cos mine were not anjd the temp sensor was full of water hence the fans were not working at all as the circuit was shorting.Check this too (plug is labelled and is in front of the block on the passenger side of the engine ontop of one of the coling pipes)

Thanks guys. Being a non mechanic, did the usual visuals and coolant top up b4 taking it to Mole Valley.

Richard was top-man, did some tests and found that I had 'big' air-locks which he managed to sort out on the spot. Running temperature back to normal, but there is a problem with the gauge which means its registering 10 degrees higher than engine temperature. Quite expensive to replace but I wonder whether it is covered by a warranty?

interested to hear all this.. mine has run consistently around 105 in traffic. I checked this with Simon at Fernhurst and he said this was completely normal.

105 is too high in mine. Mine will go up to just over 100 in traffic, fans on and back down to 95. Will get lower when in free flowing traffic.

I agree with Gazza B - ensure your fans are working !!!! Run car to above 100 then turn off engine and turn power back on - fans should automatically engage despite engine being off- If not get them sorted as youmay have the same prob I did....
