Is it worth putting in a Subwoofer between the Rear Seats, if so what is the best Amp Speaker Combination, any ideas ? I would like to do it myself as the local stereo shop is quoting £500+ for a fully fitted and trimmed enclosure with amp.

No point. If you want great tunes, open the window and floor the gas pedal.

I would recommend any thing from MTX, I have used these in my mini, the room will limit your diameter, but even an 8” sub with amp will add some thump Rockford are also very good. I’m fitting 2 8” 3way speakers from pioneer in my S2 these give good all-round performance, was £500 including the equipment what type was it? Boxed subs sound much better but it depends on how much room you have.

I had a custom job fitted to my 4.2 when I bought it: -Sony head unit with 6-disk MD changer in the boot (under the velcro carpet strip. -4x100 Rockford Fossgate Amp -1x150 Rockford Fossgate Amp for sub -Alpine sub in centre of boot firing upwards (not proud of the size of this thing, but already owned it so why change) -Sony head unit with 6-disk MD changer in the boot (under the velcro carpet strip. -MB Quart woofers in the rear -MB Quart woofers and tweeters in the front. The dealer (Hexham HC) did a fantastic job with the amps and crossovers mounted on a carpeted board in the boot and custom spacer rings made out of leather covered MDF for the front speakers (speaker depth is a problem front and rear). The sub worried me as I thought I would not hear it through the petrol tank behind the rear seats. NO problem. I keep it turned quite low as the amp/sub is very loud. Can send you the parts list/spec if you want.

sorry angrybeats, blatantly forgetting the point. I have heard of a few cases of "egg panel" mounted subs. They work (although wouldn't trust anyone other than TVR dealer) but can be over powering. In my experience, having a sub so close can completely ruin the effect. However the boot option does work (unless you like carrying golf clubs)!!!

Ralc - where is your sub positioned in the boot and how did they secure it ? Is it removeable eg for weekend trips when you need the boot space ? where is the amp positioned ? I have a 4.5. Angrybeats - I was quoted £600 approx by 121 Mobile for a top quality amp & sub fitted btwn the rear seats in an enclosure (material to match the interior of the car) Edited by dyap on Thursday 13th September 12:28

The sub is in a sealed box and is placed facing upward in the centre of the boot. I was lucky because the width of the boot (front to back) matched that of the sub box and it wedges in perfectly. The connections are screw terminals so the sub can easily be removed. The amps etc. are at the far left mounted on a board out of the way so they do not need to be removed. Even leaving the sub in, I managed to get 2 very large and full ski-type bags and could still hear it (no cases though)! It is difficult to put a price on it as I already had the kit, and the dealer fitted it as part of the purchase. The problem with the boot generally is that the boot floor is not flat and you cannot drill into the back of the boot as it holds the tank.
