Lamda sensor????
Discussion
Do any of you piston-headers know how much I'm looking to fork out for two Cats and lambda sensor for a 4.2 Cerb? (+labour)
I've had the car for about 8 months and in the last 8 weeks I've alrady parted with ~£3000. So if this proves to be expensive, I may be forced to sell up and go for a 'cheaper to run' TVR.
Also, do any of you know, if one lambda sensor goes, would this b*g*er up both cats????

How many of each? I don't drive a Cerbie only a V8S, but if that's anything to go by I'd expect to find two lamda sensors (£100 ish each) and one cat (£6-800 ish). If the lambda sensors go I guess it could overheat or poison the cats. But I wouldn't just assume it, I'd replace the lambda sensor(s) now to get the engine running right and then replace the cat(s) later if that proved necessary to get through the MOT or whatever. And here's a subtle hint, you might find that a short drive across country to the *right* MOT test station improves the cat's performance no end.
There are 2 pf each, I managed to melt the Lamba sensors last year and the cats are still good enough to get through the MOT.
I'll check on the work sheet but from memory the Lambda sensors are about £80 each and fitting is very simple. You might need a tune afterwards (I did) which was about £250.
Hope that helps

The main problem with cats is physical disintegation caused by the honeycomb substrate crumbling around the outside (just inside the outer can). Both mine went and I got Blackthorn Autocats to remanufacture them. The effectively put new substrates into your existing cans at a cost way, way lower than buying complete new cats. Give Julian a call on 08700 101800 and tell him I sent you!
Cheers,
Dave.
