Which warranty?
Discussion
Have made up my mind to buy a Cerb Aug/Sept time. Has anyone got any suggestions regarding private warranties for these little babies, ie yearly costs, etc. Spent a while looking over old threads about the potential pitfalls of owning these cars, still hasn't put me off saving to get one though!
Also, GPS systems/speed camera detection devices, what people experiences with them, and which ones should i avoid/ go for.
Thanks

My local dealer does a one year warranty for around £675, and the 2 year one for just over £1,200.
I have the Geodesy which seems quite accurate. Good for detecting FIXED cameras but obviously does not pick up mobile units. For total protection, I have been recommended one of the top of the range Bells.
Good luck

The WH warranty covers sod all ie most items fail on a cerbie cos they wear out ie engines! They will cover starters and other items like that but will define most engine probs as wear and tear. PLUS they limit cover to £1000 per claim. That covers taking the engine out and thats it.
Not ALL WHA warranties actually cap at £1000 so lets get it right when advising other people. My WHA warranty is up to the value of the car so £33k. Maybe that is because it is a newer on or whatever but having just had a £4k claim settled by them I would refute the cap listed here.In my opinion it is worth having it anyway as there is always a chance with a godd dealer that something will be covered and having a warranty by default as least gives you that option.
Fraser,
Yes I sort of agree. My WH warranty has just run out, and for the same unlimited cover, they want just short of a grand. - now that is serious money. - glad to hear you got 4k for a claim, but my experience was not as good. All the usual stuff with "diagnostic time" etc and also only paying for the actual broken bit. - I had a problem with a shock, and guess what, they only paid for one side......
I am still hovering over taking the renewal.

Sorry - to clarify , there are 3 different types of WH warranty which depend on the age of the car. I think.
I think that cars over 3yrs are always limited to £1K claims - or at least that is the only policy they would offer me through their telesales. As you often dont get the fulll vlaue of the claim (eg with suspension) or it is limited to £1K then it makes the decision whether to bother or not quite difficult. If I had a policy that was respected, wasnt limited to £1K etc then I would say it is a no brainer.

I must admit however that it does ps mee off that the warranty company finally agree that a faulty part buggered up my oil pump but then as it is an engine job I still get lumbered with an excess labour bill !!!!! If an engine really CANNOT be taken out and put back in in the specified 10 hours or whatever TVR factory states then why the hell do they say they can. This leaves dealers being unpaid by the warranty company or yours mugging trulky paying for the excess labour on a job that was proved to be the fault of a part.I cannot believe TVR put the dealers under this pressure.Or their customers actually.I would not mind but if the sodding oil pump cannot be changed with the engine in situ and the oil pump is faulty then WHA should have to pay the full bill for taking the bloody thing out and putting it in again. What a joke! I am eternally thankful that the £4k bill was paid but if you think past the initial relief surely I have a point here??
Just been reading back through this warranty shortfall malarky.
Surely, by any reasonable thought, if TVR say 10 hours for an oil pump and it takes the dealer 14 hours then thats the dealers problem not the customer? Its not like the customer has done anything that would make the job take more hours, its just they didnt do it in the same time the factory said it could be done in. Its not the down to the customer to foot the lost hours surely? All workshops work on the basis of hours sold and hours worked and the goal is always to sell more hours than work so theres their error margin for a start.
Handily I work for the largest provider of extended warranties in Europe (although not vehicles before I get bombarded!) so I will ask our lawyers about this.
Matt.

I have heard that a company called warrantywise www.warrantywise.co.uk/specialveh.htm are quiet good and the prices are not that bad either..
But i can not comment on there service record..
I am considering buying a TVR in may and looking for a warrenty company to provide cover. I may pull out of buying a Cerbera and go for a Late Griff 500 as the running costs are cheaper (Parts and Servicing)
