I've just gone and done it - bought a 4.5!!
Having trouble with the windows not winding up/down when I open the door - are there any obvious things I should check? Is it easy to remove the door panel to check the switch? Also the demister and air con have intermittrent connections - where should I be looking for the fault?
Loving the car though - just need a dry road!
Any help much appreciated by keen newbie!

Are these new problems? Your inspection should have found them I would have thought. If you haven't had the car inspected by a TVR specialist, think about doing this (even though you've already bought it) as it could well identify things needing attention now that will be more expensive later if left. And worst case scenario if there's some horrible problem, the sooner you know about it the better. Your TVR specialist may well be able to sort these little niggles out while they're at it.

Sorry to hear of your problems with the windows,i think you will find you have to live with this little quirk, had it on our Cerbera last year, never knew what they were going to do .But a new window motor did seem to cure it.Maybe you have a motor thats on its way out, ours was only 15 months old when it failed(p.s the ones on my 12 year old £600 Sierra still seem to work well!!!!).

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the window/door control unit which sits above the fuel tank? Make sure that you make a note of where the wires go before hand.

Thanks Yellow cerbie but that hasn't worked. As it is only one window, at the time of writing, could it be the switch in the door? The windows operate manually and also when the car is locked. Just not when the doors are closed.

It could be the door open/closed sensor, which is down near the sill. It can be adjusted and there are some threads about this.

Try gently leaning against the offending door. If the window pops up then the door sensor needs adjusting. Had the same problem with mine and this was how it was diagnosed. Worth a try!

Sorted windows. Thanks for all your help.

First port of call is to check fuse, then sensor at the bottom of door with magnet, as it"s a magnetic switch. If this works it may just need adjusting/cleaning. Be careful not to bring the switch too far out as it will damage the sill and may push the magnet inside of the sill when the door is closed.

If this does not work it is a simple case of removing the door skin. It is quite a weight and best done with two. This will prevent damaging the internal wiring loom, which on my car is much shorter in one door than the other! Then disconect electrical connections, clean and spay with some form of electro lube. The windows should then work. If not clean and lube little black sensor switch which works out window position. If windows still don't work then there is probably a proper problem with control box. However the feed back I have been given is that if the control box was f****d then both windows would not operate.

Hope this helps.
