Just received a letter from Blackpool this morning reossible safety related corrosion problem. Car needs to go back to dealer.

Front suspension upright can suffer from excessive build up of corrosion adjacent to the wheel bearing bore that can cause the suspension to crack and affect steering control.

Has anyone else had this ?

Had mine done last year ('98 4.5). I suspect that the factory have extended the coverage of this recall?

Yellow Cerbie - are you talking about anthracite 18inch original design wheels? Per my 18incher posting my replacement stronger ones have also cracked and so I am reluctantly going to spiders (so onto 3rd set of 18inchers).

No, they're two seperate recalls. The 18" recall was before the uprights recall.

Gazzab - bought my 4.5 from new. Had normal cerbie alloys. There was a recall last year when they were changed to my 1st set of anthracites (I don't know which version but they had a light yellow disc in the middle)

Alistair - thanks for the tip, will ask my garage to double check the steering when they've done the job.

Just received mine - Popped into dealer who had a quick look - There is a crack in mine! - They recommended I leave the car (unless I wanted the wheel to drop off!). I now have to wait until they can squeeze me in before I get the car back. Looks like my dealer is already swamped.

Sorry guys, I think I've lost the plot here. Are we talking about suspension uprights or wheels?

(it's been a long weekend )

Tough, domb. If it's any consolation, after having mine done, the car felt better. How much of that was psycological, I don't know, but worth the wait.

If it makes you all feel better it's not just cerberas! My Tuscan is booked in next Thursday to have the suspension arms replaced - got a letter from Blackpool a few days ago!

Does this mean my 97 P 4.2 Cerb needs to see the doctor???

(Maybe it can be done the same time as the drive shaft i snapped last week!)

Domb and Phythian - the plot thickens: I too have just received a recall letter from the factory (front suspension uprights) enclosing a copy of a similar letter supposedly sent to me at the end of last year (and which I never received). This is too much of a coincidence. Either there was a batch of letters accidently not sent out, or there is some arse-covering going on here!
