I have now got my cerbera back from webbs and they had put new plugs in to cure the misfire.
It has been running great the last couple of days, but then this morning on the way to work it started misfiring again. (from anything under 3000rpm it hesitates) My route to that point was all stop start slow country lane stuff, so once on the dual carriageway I gave it a boot full and the misfire seemed to clear! But once back in the town traffic I'm sure the misfire is back!
Could it be this Valve guide / rings problem webbs is on about? (They say £5000 to fix!) Joolz doesn’t think so! And have seen no blue smoke either! Checked oil level as webbs topped it up and it seemed slightly over the max mark on the dip stick, could this be causing it? Maybe I should pop it down to my closest TVR dealer David Hendry in malmesbury Wiltshire, would they be able to plug a laptop in and find the problem or something? what do you think?

Does your 'MIL'light come on at all? That is meant to detect misfires?

Only when I first turn the ignition on, but not when engines running.

Maybe you should try Raven or Joolz then? I dont know what a main dealer can do re diagnostics - but presumably they can confirm on the phone.

They are advertised all over pistonheads and are probably in the links section witin the TVR section?

Have you tried calling the nearest garage(s) to the previous owner(s) to see if they have looked into these probs on this car before?

It was webbs.. and they say there was no probs before, so I guess it's all happened in the 100 or so miles I've had it!!!!

Whereabouts are you based - I am going to try the guy based near liphook (about 10 miles from me) who is recommended by Adrian Blyth. He has the diagnostic stuff on a lap top computer. I reckon I will use him for bits n pieces and use Fernhurst for servicing stamps.

Just 2 hrs to Chesterfield then.
Webbs should have the diagnostic stuff as well on a laptop - I assume anyone who claims to be an AJP engine man should have this sofware.

Have you had the plug leads changed? I had a set that caused a slight misfire when the underbonnet temperature reached normal levels. When cold, they gave no problem. I gather it's not rare for the AJP8 plug leads to give problems after quite low mileages.

I maybe way off the mark but I had a simalar problem with my old Speed Six and it turned out to be water getting into the front scoop just under the bonnet, a quick wipe out and she would be ok again, it would never run 100% in very heavy rain though????

Check the throttle potentiometers too (there are 2 of them) and I had exactly the same problem - rough idling and then stalling - worth a check if you go to the dealers as they will just hook it up to the computer and it can test it automatically.

On a semi-similar note, when I have my 4.2 serviced I always get them to set the idle at about 1100-1200 revs-
it just sounds better at tickover !
However after a thousand miles or so it generally reverts back tp about 900 rpm. Is this something you can adjust your self, like an old fashioned idle screw ?

My 4.5 was v slow in responding a couple of weeks ago. Had the throttle response potentiometer and ECU chip changed and seems to have gone back to normal.

Thanks guys! It's been running like a dream this morning!
So maybe it just needed to stretch it's legs!
Anyway got it booked into David Hendry on Thursday for them to give it the once over and reassure me that it is 100%! Will let you know how it goes.
