Has anyone an idea, how many Cerberas were build over the years?

If so, can the number be divided in 4,2, 4,5 and Speed Six cars?

Thanks for any comments.

Regards,
Björn.

Here's a list that's been shown before on these forums. Source is good, but exact accuracy may be suspect.

How many of each model Cerbera I don't know. But I'd guess about 800 4.2, 450 4.5 and 250 S6. But I'm probably wrong!

Another claim was that there were 1996 of them.

This info was taken from the Griff forum (feb 09), and in my opinion is probably the most reliable source given all of the different figures that get banded around:

"So, I emailed The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

A big thank you to Mark Sopher, who is their Production and Export Data Coordinator.

Please note that this data is the copyright property of the SMMT. They have given it on the condition that it is for non-commercial use only.

If you wish to use it commercialy, please contact them before use.

I have emailed him back and asked if he can supply earlier data.

He sent me a couple of Excel spreadsheets. If anyone wants copies, drop me a line. If anyone is better at formating posts, please feel free to make this more readable."

The first set of numbers are from Ben Lang (TVR Chief Engineer) supplied to the New Zealand DVLA in response to their request for production numbers. Most likely these are production numbers, not sales/registrations. The second set of numbers seem to lag a bit behind the first (if you look at the peak sales of each model) so if they are based on sales or registrations that would make sense.

Of course they don't add up, but then you wouldn't really expect them to would you? wink

Would also be interesting to know how many from this set of figures are actually still running.

ie how many written off/scrapped

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the written off/non-runners figure was between 300-500.

The Cerbera has been around 12 years, and given the number of write offs you 'hear' of on this forum alone + what's always in Douglas/Bell, is it unreasonable to say 30 cars a year dissapear?

It was I who got the spreadsheets from the SMMT.

The SMMT data is compiled from figures supplied to them by TVR.

However, there are clear errors in the data. All Griff's are the same engine size, 5 litres. Even those made in the precat 4 litre era.

There are several possible explanations for some of the anomalies ranging from transcription error to the figures having been fiddled.

I suggest nothing about TVR or any individual connected to TVR, but it is known that Lotus produced more cars than they declared to the taxman. In that case, Colin Chapman had exported the extra production. He acted alone and kept all the 'other set of books' himself. When he died, the records were discovered.

In my digging for information, I learned that we could buy DVLA data from one of their agents. I contacted one and asked for a quote.

A list of TVR's currently UK registered, broken down by model, engine capacity and date of first registration. This would cost in the low hundreds. £2-300 ish. The more details, the higher the higher the Price.

Threads have sprung up on several model areas, citing my research. All have wondered how many survive.

Since it seems of great interest to a large number owners, perhaps the TVRCC should purchase the information on behalf of us all.

Resurrecting an old thread. I'm the new caretaker of a 1996 Cerbera.
I'm curious if there is a way to decode the VIN # to get information on it's build date, etc.

The first entry in the owners handbook appears on the PDI & Customer Handover page: August 1, 1996, at The TVR Centre Barnet Road Arkley. The car had 35 miles on it.

You can decode your VIN here: (unfortunately it's in german but easy to understand what it means)
https://vin-decoder.tvr-cars.de/

for example: VIN: SDLCB15A2WB000001
SDL = Digit 01 - 03 | Manufacturer: TVR Engineering Ltd (after July 1990)
CB = Digit 04 - 05 | Model: Cerbera
15 = Digit 06 - 07 | Engine Type: undefined
A = Digit 08 | no meaning/unknown: A
2 = Digit 09 | Checksum: 2
W = Digit 10 | Production-Year: 1998
B = Digit 11 | Production-Month: February or Production-Site: Blackpool
000 = Digit 12 - 14 | 2. identification of manufacturer (< 1000 cars/year): 000
001 = Digit 15 - 17 | the 001. built TVR in the production year 1998

Engine Numbering:
for example 0107P6401234
01 = Digit 01 - 02 / year / 2001
07 = Digit 03 - 04 / month / july
P = Digit 05 / unknown
6 = Digit 06 / 6 cylinders
40 = Digit 07 - 08 / Capacity / 4000ccm
1234 = Digit 09 - 12 / Engine Serial number
