I have 18 inch wheels on my late 98 4.5 Cerb. They are the same style as the original fitment. They were replaced under the recall by the prev owner. Anyway I have brand new s02's all round (because I had a couple of flats that damaged the tyres - as they MIGHT have been losing pressure).
One of the front tyres is losing pressure (at 19.5 psi this am). The wheel was visually inspected before the last tyre was fitted but it appears that it might still be a problem. Anyone had experience of this? I will get it looked at by a tyre place eg see if they can work out where (if!?) it is losing pressure.
The other angle is to either go back to 17's (buy some and some tyres!! ouch!) OR hang onto my new 18 inch s03s but put them on spyders. I am not sure I like the look of the spyders BUT I am also aware that they might impact bump stops, turning circles etc etc... Anyone got any adivce on this ?
Thanks
Gary

what is all this about spiders going ' square ' I thought it was the 18" normal wheels that had all the issues- ie/porous etc.... I did not realise there was also an issue with spiders and I find it hard to believe cos surely if there were issues they would be recalled.Regardless of tyre profile a wheel should never change shape (unless you drive off road at 100) - if it does then there is an issue with either its design or its compounds.Given this happened with the old 18's I find it highly unlikely to happen with the replacement
Anyway as you can gather I have spiders and did not require bump stops or spacers. Yes your turning circle will be smaller (hardly thought it could get smaller !) but I have had no tramlining and the car feels far better on the 35 profile tyres at speed.
I'd go for the spiders but if you want 17" contact me as I have 4 with 2 perfect tyres(SO2's) on the front and about 1.5-2k in the rears(SO2's).

Mike, you love going on about this don't you? They don't all go square - it must just have been a bad batch. I was forced to switch to the new ones after my original spec 18" wheels were recalled. I haven't had a single problem with them, or any other Cerberas. Maybe it's just a Tuscan problem?

Not really, I've just heard it from loads of other Tuscan owners. I did have one front wheel buckle but that was after a small 'off' at Folembrey
I think there was a problem with them because they've changed the inner rim design recently (strengthened it) and for some time all new Tuscans have had 40 section front tyres (which would help cushion the wheel rim slightly) - I had 35 section fronts.
I think you may be right about the Tuscan being more susceptible than a Cerby (there's certainly more reports of the problem on the Tuscan egroup) but I can't figure why that would be so.
Mike.

As some of you may know I have 17" RL-7's on the front of my Griffith (see my profile). Yesterday I noticed a knock to the rim of the nearside front wheel. I know I haven't kerbed it so is it possible that I hit a pot-hole at some speed and the tyre de-formed sufficiently for the rim to strike the edge of the pot-hole? I have 40 profile front tyres. Rich...
