We are now in the market, after having sold our 400SE, for a Cerbie - what should we be looking out for when examining these cars. Whats the biggest gripe most of you have once you've brought one.....

I don't get this; there's loads on the discussion threads..why go through "gripes". Have a read through for a couple of hours; look at all the other web sites and comments; talk to dealers, friends and decide.

Thanks Woolfie - its not as simple as it seems as unfortunately we have to go down a harder route than most. Yes benno we are from "GUERNSEY" not from whereever it is you mentioned! That would be good if you could. I know Andy's hopefully going to look at a few for us. But we're a bit stuck now when we talk to people on the e-mail systems as to what we should be asking them except is the clutch a 4.2 clutch or a 4.5. Andy said you might help us look. I think he meant you and him do a few testdrives for us. Is this OK. If your wife does get another TVR and you go to back home plenty of as a thank you.

Gurnsea smurnsea...

andy may have said a mate Rob has just got a 98/R 4.5 with sub 30k miles for £18.5K from a dealer

On that basis i would go for a 4.5!

stop worrying pimplegoose. We know what to look for and will make sure you don't buy a dog.

There is a long list of faults. A 4.5 isn't neccesarily better than a 4.2. Ask the guys who did the rolling road test, the 4.2's had more BHP than the 4.5's!!!!

Is this right Flasher? I heard somewhere else that someone had an S6 on the dyno, that made more power too?

Thats when they run anyway......

Yes I was there at the infamous rolling road and my 4.5 came up with 333bhp as you can guess at first I wasn't happy until the next day a group of us went to an airfield and all the speed 6s and 4.2s were left behind by the 4.5s (Strange or what) admittedly the 4.2s are quick. If I were to buy a new Cerbie I would not be scared to go for a tidy 4.2 and save some money for upgrades after all were talking %^*ing fast or %$^&ing *&^%ing fast.

No worrys and thanks Flasher, I trust you 150%. We did find one today which was a 4.5 with 550 bhp and top speed of 220 mph. also Nige's colour. Don't think we can afford the cost if something went wrong though!! but the car is reasonable in price. The Silver ones gone.

Phil

You looked shocked when me and benno came flying past you on the way to Silverstone last year! I gave your old 4.5 a run for it's money while being chased by the Hun in his panzer mobile

Lets hope the Tamora is as much fun

Only a few weeks now

Pimplegoose, be careful. 550bhp Cerb means big bucks when it goes wrong

I agree with Phil. They are both quick cars and I don't give a toss what anyone says, up to 130mph there is bugger all in it.

Pimplegoose, just take your time and find the right car, right colour, good history and get a warranty. You won't regret it because it's the fastest and most exiting car in the world IMO.

So, you may ask, why did I sell mine? I lost my job

When I did get myself sorted I decided that I wanted a convertible and that I needed my licence. I broke the law just opening the garage when I had the Cerb and that's the biggest downside to owning one. IMO.

The best thing is that you can blow ANYTHING away with one. Its also the worst thing because the temptation is soooo great

Cheers

Andy.

Newbie Alert!!

I have been looking around at Cerberas for sometime now, since the current motor is starting to show the signs of meeting its maker (or another owner anyway).

I have been reading loads of the threads that are posted here, and am aware that a Cerbera is far from a "Pop down the nearest car supermarket and buy one" type of car. I am trying to understand the costs of the car, and trying to discover what it is that I should look for so that I don't end up with a puppy.

I noticed that Benno mentioned that he had an e-mail with a load of "Gotchas" that are worth looking for. Is it possible you could fire it over to me? TIA.

Any advise you have gladly received (I have read a number of other posts, but if you have anything to add even better!)

Cheers.
