Henley Heritage are currently advertising a 2001 Y reg 4.5 Cerbera at £39,995 as part of their reduced price secondhand cars. That part seems okay my worry is that the car has done 4,000 miles but has apparently had TWO owners.
Should I be getting worried about this or not?

2 owners bit is nothing to worry about, probably either somebody whom expected to use it everyday and found impractical or somebody whom got fed up with a couple of niggles.

Only bit to be worried about is the depreciation and resale of a £40K Cerby, as long as you are going to keep it for a couple of years minimum and be happy getting £25-28K back in 10,000 miles time then it sounds a blast.

When you think HH probably have 6-7K mark up in that car it has already lost somebody a lot of money in a year.

Talking from experience make sure it is a good colour combination (either fairly bright pearl or dk blue/mag etc) AND IT MUST HAVE AIR CON as this makes a car saleable.

Resale values of second hand Cerbies are much better than other TVRs at the moment.

Henley sells a lot of Cerbies and the dealers I've recently spoken with told me, best selling second hand car is the Cerbie, especially cheap 4.2 and late 4.5.

If you're not sure about the history of the car, call the factory and ask about it.

I personally think, that the 4.5 LW is the most sorted TVR ever.

My advice, check the history at the factory and if everything is fine buy it, you won't regret it.

No way Griff 500 and Chimera are leagues ahead in build quality, niggles and reliability. I had total confidence in my Griff and did a 4K tour of Europe in it (down through France, to monaco, Italy, switzerland and germany) without a single prob.

No way would i have done the journey in a Cerb.... i would have just not had the confidence...

I have my 6th TVR now, having had a Griffith 4.3, Griffith 500, 97' Cerbie 4.2, 98' Cerbie 4.2, 2000 Tuscan, 2001 4.5LW RR.

And again, my current car is the best TVR I've ever owned. Runs like a dream, no niggles, absolutely perfect.

BTW. all my Cerbies have been very good and reliable.

PS: I think its not a good idea to put of all the prospective buyers of A Cerbie because your bad experience with one Cerbie. It's an exception not a rule!!! Maybe it has something to do that a Cerbie is much more a racecar than most of the other cars and you have to treat it with respect.

I compare my car with a F40 or F50, Diablo, etc and I'm very pleased with my baby...

Bennno, you've made your point about a hundred times now. Every damn thread on the Gassing Station is becoming the same. Can't you just leave it now and let the fans of TVR get on and enjoy their toys?

I agree with Bennno as would most dealers, the latest Griffs and Chimeras are probably a bit better developed than the Tuscan or Cerb for everyday use.

After all there are a lot of Griff/Chimps out there on their original engines at 80K miles+.

Not sure why pointing out the truth warrants a yellow card?

Fernies have just sold an 11 month old 4.5 cerbie (fully loaded) with 8000 on the clock for a tad under 36k. It was almost 55k new!!!

Looks like it is not just the tuscans that are suffering second hand price problems.

Finance companies are also being VERY cautious when setting balloon payments on ANY tvr.

Ive lost ALOT on my tuscan (

I've had a chimp and am now driving a cerb. Find the driving refinement and quality of finish in the cerb far better than that of the chimp. It's only the engine which asks questions, but as the speed 6 is a new engine I'am sure all problems will be resolved. If you want to become a car maker in your own right you can't rely on an ageing yank block which is sourced externally.

The poor sod that owned that cerbie must have got quite a lot less than that for it for Fernies to take just £36K. What did they have it up for?
So prev owner must have lost nearly £22K in 11 months. £2K a month or about £3 a mile in depreciation (then add on petrol and servicing and repairs and tyres - gulp £3.50 a mile).
So the car was worth 60% of its value after 11 months.
Great news for people like me who might want another 2nd hand Cerbera in a year or so.

I agree re Cerb v Chim. I had a very sorted mid 97 Chim. The build quality was good but the Cerbera is so much better. The interior is vastly better. As faor the seats! Ignoring the fact that the AJP8 engine is really a race engine and needs some special attention and care - the cerbera feels so much better to drive round town. The torque wont catch you out like a rover v8. The engine sounds very different - and whilst I love the rover growl I now prefer the AJP crackle and pop. The handling is much better as well - much more progressive. Although the Chim did feel more chuckable on b roads if you lost it you were in trouble.
