I am thinking about buying a Cerby, I have a griff 500 at present but I’m finding it too small to take abroad with me. I was thinking about getting a 911 but don’t really want to leave the TVR fold (and the noise). Can anyone give me some ideas as to what model to get and what the running costs are (compared to a griff). Looking at a car for about 22-3K. Also how reliable do you think one would be to drive to Spain and back a couple of times a year? (+ Le Mans of course).

Thanks for any help.

See my post today on appalling relibility. In spite of some happy owners who post to this site, what I suspect is the silent majority go un-noticed. I personally know 3 other Cerbera owners and have been in contact with 4 others, all of whom have similar stories. You have been warned.......

Hopefully not a pissing contest - with the info on this site people can at least go into TVR ownership with open eyes.
McK seems to be just stating the facts of his life with a Cerbera backed up with clear details and figures. Makes a change to some of the more subjective comments people have made on here (many who seem to have never even driven a TVR).

I have got to agree with you.Much of the comment on here seems to be from the "TVR owner one day" brigade. As such people looking at this site for an insite to Cerbera ownership are being mis-lead by non owners.I am 2 days into Cerbera ownership (30k 1999 S6) and McK's comments worry me.I previously owned a BMW, and although I prepared myself for "niggles" with my Cerbera, I find the prospect of major work as described here terrifiying.Quite simply I would just not be able to afford those sort of bills.I know some will say you can't run a Cerbera cheaply but do I spend my hard earned on THE ultimate British supercar and hope for the best or buy a maintenance free 2-3 year old M3 (like millions of other people have done)and play safe?. I hope I have made the right choice.......

I agree - can I point 'real' owners/potential owners to the TVR Car Club site (www.tvrcc.com). It serves me well as another form on info. on top of this site, and now contains a 'members only' section - this should filter out the "(not ever going to be) an owner one day" brigade.

Only problem is, not many Cerbera posts there yet - need more 'real' owners to share info. and give genuine feedback. So get posting there as well!!

Costs a few quid from memory for a years subscription, and you get the excellent magazine too!

Cheers,
Tommo

NNA....Cheers for that.I have got a one year warranty from the TVR dealer I brought off, and will certainly extend that to the three years I hope to keep the car. Anyone know the cost of these warranties?
P.s. To all you guys who post on here who have'nt got a Cerby, I'm not knocking you, but just pointing out that opinions given which are not based on actual ownership can be mis-leading to potential buyers such as me (as was).

So Darren the advice seems to be steer clear of the S6 and get a 4.5!!! I can only agree coz i only have a 4.5 and it is fantastic... Only prob will be a few more grand than you have mentioned to get a good one. Well worth it!! I've had mine nearly 4 months and no major probs (my everyday car!).

My advice - look after it! You know what I mean if you have a Griff 500 at the moment (it needs TLC). By the way I had the Griff 500 before this cerby and the difference is very noticeable all round!

Spend the extra to get a good 4.5 and use it regularly and you will not have problem (I also agree with the post about Warranty - get one! it is good insurance and you will use it. If you want to chat further about my ownership email me your number and I'll call you!
