Surely this can't be true
Discussion
I've just read this on another messageboard ( www.supercars.net/cMsg?viewThread=y&year=2000&make=TVR&model=Cerbera%20Speed%2012&fn=26&i=1750 ) 'I have heard of 2nd Generation Speed 12's (there's been 3 generations) passing 1200bhp when modified by private owners.'
and was wondering if anyone here knew if this is true or not?
Thanks in advance.

sure it can be done, but i dont believe anybody did it before and there arent many TVR speed 12 owners out there.
By the way Supercars.net is a pretty good site about a lot of very fast cars but the forums ar pure carp, mostly replies are made by people who SAY they all have a very fast car and also have 1 favorite car which is the best of the world. sure... 9 out of 10 arent telling the thruth i think.

Has anyone talked to someone that has a seriously boosted Jap turbo car? You know the ones that people say have 1000Bhp? You try pulling away from the lights in it - turbo lag from hell and a "will it" or "wont it" stall or fly away....
They are not easy to drive and a nightmare to drive in anything other than flat out....And most of the claims of performance on these things are somewhat over exaggererated... most dont pull more than 600 - 800bhp (only he says).
The big difference here is that the Jap cars (Skyline, 300ZX etc) are turbo or twin-turbo models. Therefore uping the boost etc is easy. To take a 8 litre (I think) V12 to over 1000bhp would be hard at best... the only thing to do would be turbo it - but try doing that to a TVR engine....
On my knowledge I would have to concur - utter tosh..
Cheers,
Paul

thom said: Why not? Japs modify there Supras for delivering 800 hp so it doesn't sound impossible to pump out 1200 hp from the speed 12....Anyway I wonder where the point is: I doubt the speed 12 can handle so much power
Why? can a Supra handle 1200 or 800 bhps???
Bye the way, the link is not working

There are a number of Supras running 800 bhp BUT these are really only used on the drag strip, or a traffic lights GP. THe 3 litrecan be modified with a single turbo, or, start with a twin turbo. A work colleague is really into Supras right now and constantly chats about them, until I show him a copy of the TVR Sprint magazine Basically any turbo engine can be modified to produce silly power, usually at the cost of reliability.
