I wonder if there is anyone out there that can help me?

I have a 1997 TVR 4.2 Cerbera, which I picked up on the 7th June, the following weekend used her to travel to Le Mans and back. Just as I pulled up outside my house on the way back, the Hydralic clutch gave way!! Lucky, and unlucky!!??

The problem is there was no sign of the clutch or hydralics going. A 970 mile round trip and she drove like a dream. The car has been with a dealer since I got back on the 16th June, and they can't find the problem.

They've replaced a couple of damaged seals in the Slave cylinder. Clutch usable, but nowhere near right.

Then tried replacing the master cylinder all together, again, better but not right.

They are now removing the geatbox for the second or third time (I've lost count!) trying to source the problem!!

Has anyone experienced anthing similar in the past?? Can you suggest anything?? Franlky, myself and the dealer are at a loss as to why the clutch isn't working properly??

I've only had her for 24 days, and she's been in the dealer for 16 of them!!!

clutch slave failure is relatively common, but should last a couple of years/24K before/between failures maybe.

If yours is an early 4.2, then the design was changed along with the clutch itself. Bill for new/updated slave and clutch is around £1.5K give or take.

Nothing to do with mixing and matching old style/new style parts?

WB -

I am sure the clutch itelf is fine, there was no slipping at all. It was the pedel that went as I got home. As far as I am aware there is no mixing and matching of parts on the clutch, although the engine has been upgraded to 1999 spec???

Our slave went last june & there was no tell-tale signs of it going. Just suddenly my foot hit the floor & no clutch. Slave cylinder was fixed/replaced, and clutch felt as it did before when we picked it up. Doesn't help you much, more agreeing with WB....

Mine had gone just before I bought the car, clutch seems fine to all in the know and that have tried it.

Take it away to an expert ie an indie like APM or Joospeed. Fixed properly and more cost effectively.
