Hi guys..Am going to buy a 2001 Cerbera 4.5LW Red Rose this week from a tvr dealer. Rather than going through 2000 postings can someone who knows what they are talking about kindly advise me on what to look out for with bullet points to minimise my exposure? As i am a rookie with TVR any insight is appreciated.

My advice as some one who is also buying a car right now?

Go through the 2000 postings first!!

TVR purchases are like walking a minefield and you have to know some very important things.

Mostly, as they are hand built, every car is different
and what applies to one, may not apply to another.

Most importantly, don't just buy it because it looks cool.

It will hurt your wallet and quite possibly...YOU!

what dealer are you looking to buy from? I was in the same position as you last year (TVR Neewbie) very experienced with cars over 30 odd years but knew nothing about TVR, just knew I had to have one (3rd Mid life crisis). Usuall advice look at loads, drive a few etc and what did I do? went to my local tvr dealers and this incredible puple monster was sat there screaming BUY ME, so I did.
Any regrets? No apart from wishing I could have bought one years ago, and wish I could afford a Tuscan as well!!.
I put my complete trust in the dealer! (never done that before) Fernhurst and they never let me down.
Still got a stupid grin on my face, take the long route to where i'm going and keep going out to the garage to just look at it.

I am sure you are well heeled if you are buying from a dealer. So the running costs of £3K a year are not a problem? A dealer service history is going to cost you and you are going to see them a lot so make sure you like them!
A 4.5 RR is going to be quite new and so you cant really go on the history. But do make sure it is totally sorted re servicing.
Speak to the factory and quote the chassis number. they can tell you what work has been doen to engine or chassis or body.
I would get it inspected by an indie TVR guy.
You cant speak to the last owner unless you can track him down so you wont know if the car has been treated properly, particularly re running in and rev limits from cold. this is a big down side of dealers.
Make sure it has aircon.
Make sure everything works.
Ensure plenty of tread in tyres.
Look for accident damage, particularly look for repairs to chassis.
Remember that a dealer gives you a warranty but you can buy those yourself and so you are paying about £7K for the convenience. You dont have the chance to talk to the owner etc
But what a fantastic car!!
