After all the horror stories I have been reading on troubled-engined Cerberas I was wondering if some of you out there still have had good experiences of you car until now .
If so do you use your car everyday or only for special occasions?

Thom - Use mine as everyday transport. Jan 99 4.5 cerby. Done just over 4k miles in a couple of months - no probs so far (except for usual TVR niggles - bonnet catch broke, exhaust bracket split - nothing major!). Also drove Griff 500 before as everyday transport - again niggles but no major stuff. Did 25k miles over 18months... Not got experience of Speed six engine but I did buy a baby set from a guy in Sheffield who had just bought a speed six for everyday...I'll ask him in a couple of months how he's getting on!!

Are you not afraid of getting stuck in jams? I guess the speed eight do not really appreciate running at idle too long, does it? Did you ever have any overheating troubles?
PS: I am obssessed with overheating because when I was a little boy my Dad used to turn crazy as soon as the water niggle was a bit too high...

How long do you keep stuck in the traffic? That frightens me

I drive from Wapping to Earlsfield every day. The car is fine. I'm shagged.

Perhaps our friend who lives at Canary Wharf and drives to Wimbledon could pick me up and chauffer me down there......

I suppose I'm lucky living in the midlands then (maybe?!) At least I don't sit in too much traffic. My usual run takes me cross country to the M40 then down the M40 to J2. Only hold ups are if the M40's blocked at all (unusual). Did sit in traffic on the M6 last week for half an hour - Had thighs like Geoff Capes when I got out!! Still - it's all worth it!!

Our Cerbera (very late '97 4.2) gets used 6 days a week. Done 8000 miles in 3 & 1/2 months. Gets used regardless of weather, and so far (hugging a large tree), has been 100% reliable....

The more miles it has covered, the better buy it may be: TVRs are odd even that way.....

This is good news. I have been thinking seriously about getting back into a TVR, more than likely back to a Chim. I have always loved the look/go of the Cerbie but was a bit worried about every day running. - Dear Father Christmas..........

P.S I wonder how the guy from the Top Gear special is doing with the Cerbie that his wife bought for him as a surprise to replace his 12 year old Cavalier, Are you here????

I remember that programme. I've never seen someone look more underwhelmed in all my life!

Christ, I'd have been dancing on the bleedin' rooftops ... she could have gone out and bought all the candles, cuddly toys, saucepans, wooden blinds/floors, plants, knick-knacky bloody things she could carry ... (no change there then)

TVR owner one day soon

I have a '98 4.2 - I don't drive every day (I work from home) but I take it whenever I won't have to leave it overnight anywhere - done 7,000 miles in it so far in 8 months with no real problems. Sat in traffic from York races for 80 minutes - got hot but kept going - left thigh like steel afterwards & used a litre of oil on the day... go on get one !

I had the 15th 4.5 built, bought in November 1997. I ran it as not only my everyday car, but as the family car, for two and a half years. Eventually, even my wife started to trust it! We did 3 family holidays in it, including two weeks around the Lake District, kids in the back. £300 Xmas Tesco shop? No problem. Even took it to the trade centre one and brought a toilet back in the boot! Tiny niggles here and there, but nothing major. Only sold it because I spent too much on a house. But after lasting a year I've given in and bought a 1996 Griff 500 (kids too big for a Cerby now).
