Look at as many as poss, go to the local meet and then when you have found colour/spec that you are looking for buy it.

Pound for pound it beats anything else out there, and the bonus is people like TVR's and esp Cerbs. Waves, smiles, guys riding bikes crashing into hedges is all part of the experience.

Feel free to email if you want some hints, but scan the archives as well there is a gold mine of info out there.

Cheers

Dont dismiss the speed6 cars, they sound great IMHO and go superbly, they maybe slightly softer than the V8 cars but they are easier to drive day to day. Find a good one and you wont regret it.

Hey, how has your new Cerb been? Ours has had a new back box, but otherwise the thing is a scream.. now to find some decent anthracite 18' spiders

Totally agree with this: I have a speed 6 and think it's more refined and forgiving than the V8s, but then I would say that, wouldn't I. But, note the various concerns posted about early speed 6 reliability probs: I haven't got a clue whether those concerns are justified, but wouldn't hesitate to buy the Speed 6 if given the choice again now.

Ok, so convince me.
Can you give me the plus points over buying a 4.2 / 4.5? (Apart from them being a lot less money to buy)

Why are they easier to drive day to day and from what reg were they sorted?

I'm looking at 4.2's, so stage one last fight for the Speed Six and change my mind!

Never mind whether they're soft or not. How about the fact that the engine is rubbish. They've had so many problems with the Speed 6 engine since it was wheeled out. You'll be able to admire the car so much, while it's waiting to have the engine rebuilt.

The V8s have their problems, but they're nothing compared to what you see on the Speed 6.

I had a 4.5 and drove it every day for 3 years (52,000 miles). It was dead easy. OK, not as easy as a Mondeo, but then it was much more fun. The Speed 6 is a complete lemon.

If you're looking for a second hand Cerbie, the 4.2 is a good choice. Not quite as quick as the 4.5 (but there isn't much in it, and you won't notice unless you take it to the track), and you can pick them up for buttons.

Just make sure that it has a full service history, and ideally buy a car that you know. A bit of neglect can come and bite you in the wallet big time, so if it isn't perfect, let it go and find another.

Buy a 4.5 - I drive one every day even though i've got an S8 too. Can't keep out of the cerb.

Do look at loads of cars and make sure you buy a mint one. I would suggest you make sure you get a warranty as they do go wrong.
