I have a 4.5 that I took out on Saturday. I knew that the oil was running low but still above the minimum, however on my drive the oil light came on.

Later I topped up the oil but the light stayed on. I noticed that if I got the revs up it went out. The temperature, pressure and performance are all as normal.

Is this a spurious warning or an indication of something more serious?

Could just be a faulty sender - had this on mine. It was replaced under warranty, but I don't think it's an expensive job anyway.

If the gauge was still reading normally, it's most likely just be the sender for the light. Of course, it's also possible that you have a faulty gauge and no oil pressure

Is it possible for there to be oil showing on the dip stick but a part of the engine can still be starved of oil?

If the oil is showing as very low on the dipstick, bear in mind that the dipsticks on the AJP8 is quite hard to read sometimes and think about the possibilities.

The low mark on a dipstick isn't there to tell you when to top it up. That's what the high mark is for.

Oil reading is mid-way and the oil pressure gauge is displaying as normal, when cold higher pressure than when warm and increases with a sudden increase in the revs.

if one morning in the next couple of days you go to your car and it won't start you know TVR have done their usual trick of swapping the oil light and charge warning lights over, really your car isn't charging!!!

but top that blinking oil up won't you!? naughty naughty
