well just had a call from the dealer, my 99 4.5's clutch has broken (thought it was the slave cylinder) something to do with the fingers broken off. The friction plate was 60% worn at 20K miles (not bad) WH have agreed to pay 50%of the bill because of "betterment" I didn't think that was bad. Missed all the sun over the last week though!

Hmm. Seems quite common this. I had it happen to my clutch a couple of weeks ago, and the clutch had only done 12k in the car .

Still, there you go. :gallicshrugsmilie:

...was bilding up to making exactly the same announcement. M40 yesterday, clutch went. Lots of fluid running down the pedal - therefore, I'm hoping that it is just the master cylinder seal.

I've got exactly the same warranty holder and still waiting for the diagnosis from dealer. If it's more complicated, I'd really be hoping that this is covered.

However, on a more basic note - is this something that I should've spotted beforehand ? To be honest, I really didn't notice any difference at all in the clutch movement until it went. I know that 3 days beforehand when hoovering the driver's footwell that there wasn't any noticable leakage. Would like to think that if this is spottable, then it's something that I could look out for in the future.

it's not something that you would notice, gear selection was stiff for a couple of days and parked over night next day no clutch at all.

Cheers Alan. Re-assuring that the driving grin wasn't imparing other senses ... !

Just got word back from Dealer - just he master cylinder. Work all completed and car awaiting next weekend's sunshine. Depending on damage, may not need to put through as a warrantly claim.

Lee.

well I have now got her back with the new clutch. It feels totally different much much nicer to change gear and even easy to drive in traffic.
