All,
what are the implications of this part failing?
i.e what would happen? Are these parts suspect
to failure? has anyone had this problem?
Would this be potentially dangerous?

I guess the front wheel falls off, probaly gonna happen when ur going fast. My car had a recall letter in the s/h blaming the problem on corrosion. Does this mean it'll need doing again in the future, or did they replace the part for a rust proof one???? As my cars a 97 I guess later cars aren't affected. I suggest u get it checked either way. Hope thats helped a little.

Re - 4.5 accident
It seems that according to eye witness reports
that my freinds tvr went out of control suddenly.
there were no other vechicles involved .
Apparently the car just spun 180 degrees and went
hurtling backwards into a lampost. To me
this seems to suggest some sort of mechanical failure??

i know the wishbones are, or should i say were poorly protected for corrosion, and as they are a fabricated part are morelikey to corrode anyway. My 98R has had the wishbones already replaced, failure of the one mentioned would suggest mechanical failure of the strut mount or wishbone, and the outcome, even a fairly calm speeds- well you can imagine..... i hear that newer models have better corrosion protection -aint gonna be cheap, but what price safety.

The "corrosion" problem of the front uprights was more to do with poor quality design, and the problem was cracks forming, not corrosion (mine were badly cracked when I inspected them after receiving the recall notice). The uprights were completely redesigned, so it shouldn't occur again.

Your car should have been fixed by now. There was a little sticker that I believe they put onto the VIN plate. However, a call to the factory will be able to confirm whether it has been done or not. I would think that the only reason it wouldn't have been is if the car has had a few owners, and been serviced by a non franchised dealer, so the factory may have lost track of it. Either that or a previous owner ignorred the letter.

All,
My freind and my blood brother over 23years of friendship, passed away today in the Heath hospital.
His name was Joe , he was full of life and I loved
him as a brother.
One of our common ambitions in life was to own the CERBERA,
when we finally realized this some weeks ago, we were
both so proud. Me with my 4.2 and Joe with his 4.5 He has left a wonderful family behind,and many people who admired and loved him.I am stricken with grief, and I feel that i have to share this with all of you people.
I wish everyone safe and long TVR driving.
Look after yoursevles All.

My sympathies to all who have suffered this great loss. Its shocking how such a thing could happen in a Cerbera. Having seen a fair few in substantial crashes I have always felt safe in the knowledge that everyone inside has always walked out afterwards.

Not sure on how it could have happened, I guess its irrellevant as nothing can bring back such a great loss, but its still extremely worrying. I guess this is another reminder - keep your cars in good order and remember, Cerberas can bite back.

My condolances to all familys and friends involved.

Edited to add - we had the part fail after a shunt with a curb off a roundabout (understeered into it in the wet) The car remained driveable for the journey home if with slightly odd steering - which may have been down to the damage to the wheel during the accident (big chunk of it taken out). We then paid for the repair only to get a recall notice a few days later thus losing out a hundred quid or so.

Damn, that's sad. If it is any consolation to hear condolences from a total stranger - albeit a kindred spirit as a fellow Cerbera owner - then please pass my sympathies on to the family.
