Help! I'm looking for a Cerbera/Tuscan

I'm looking to purchase a Cebera Speed 6 or Tuscan with a budget of £28k. Talking to my local dealer he stated that this was well short of the mark for a late Tuscan, as this budget would only include early models with the potential for all their teething problems.
He suggested that I should go for a Cerbera, increase the budget by around £4k and go for a 4.5 engine for the sake of reliability. Having looked on the web it appears that my budget could include W/X reg units, so is this sound advice? or a case of scare monger tactics regarding warranty & dealer support ?????

Reading through the forums it seems that I'm stuck between the "Do I opt for Trade or Private" and "Speed 6 or V8" a bit like between the devil and the deep CC
However, what I need is a kindly Essex owner who hand holds !!! Does this ever happen ??
Finally having been excused a test drive from my kindly TVR local Dealer (guv'nors not here and he's got the keys" more likely is driving up in a Saab after the might before looking rough as a Koala's Crotch he's only interested in a cheap thrill at our expense !! I shopped around on and off for the past two years. I've finally bought a 4.2 from a dealer.
The general advice I received was go for V8. If possible (given your budget it certainly is) buy through a TVR dealer. I feel it has given me slightly more peace of mind. Not having to do HPI checks, organise vehicle inspections etc. A dealer should also give you a years warranty.
4.2 vs 4.5. I really don't think there is much in it. I've heard that early 4.2's are quicker than late 4.5. They're both bloody quick so does it matter?
Finally test-drive a few (I ended up trying 6). They really are all slightly different.

I'll take your advice on the test drive, but this time I think the answer lies in first test driving a Mercedes, being dropped off at the TVR center thus allowing you membership and the rights of passage. The last time I was looked down on in this manner was a trip to a top London Store!!! When did I become paranoid? when they started plotting against me....
Sod that, they're only selling cars. I arrived in my 1985 Mazda 323. The funniest thing that happened was when I arrived really late for one drive and the bloke asked if my sat nav had sent me the wrong way I didn't have the heart to tell him that I didn't have FM on the radio let alone sat nav.

I see so it's a case of go for the sympathy vote, or else look like an eccentric millionaire. Perhaps next time I will handcuff a black suitcase to my wrist and wear my best suit, though this makes me look like a bouncer!
Maybe they should employ Cuba Gooding Jnr for test drives and to shout "Show me the Money!"

I'm in the same stage of looking and learning as yourself, so why not make the trip tomorrow to the TVR Track Day where many questions will be answered?
A selection of cars from TMS will also be there for viewing.

Yeah, you've no worries there mate. Take the word of someone even bigger.
Mind, I'm 6'3 and built like a tank, not sure how comfortable it would be if you were short and very fat round the middle (Not suggesting you are of course )

Well lets say this 5'11" but you might be right about the fat around the middle, to roll cigs I simply insert a fag paper into one of the folds of fat, pile up the baccy and lean forward to the cigarette lighter. Lo & behold a rollie is made ready for licking and enjoying. But I suppose smoking in a Cerbera would be sacreligious!

Don't worry about what you drive in. I bought my first TVR after driving in a knackered old scirocco. A good dealer will not care.
As for the Tuscan v Cerbera SP6 debate - 28k should easily get you a good Tuscan or Cerbera, but I personally would opt for the 4.2 or 4.5 V8 in the Cerbie if that's the direction you opt for. I think the SP6 is all wrong in the Cerbera.

Make sure you drive a Tuscan and a Cerb, preferably back to back.
I did and I loved them both. In the end it came down to the practicality and flexibility of the Tuscan (huge boot - roof comes off - better driving position (IMHO)). My missus also found the Cerb a bit claustrophobic. They both look, sound and go like nothing else.
Whichever you choose you will not be sorry.

Yes, it's like choosing between Kylie & Danni, you'd like to get inside both, so it's down to a matter of choice.
The only big worry regarding the Tuscan is, looking through all the units for sale, a fair number say "just had an engine rebuild" as if this is a statemant offering peace of mind! perhaps it is & I know I've grown up on Saabs (and can't even compare) where they go on forever 270k + on the last one.
But this seriously worries me? why? how often? at what cost? etc. Perhaps I'm in the minority and I'm certainly not upwardly mobile, but £28k is Sh!t loads of money to spend on weekend toy/dream but we all know that the TVR center really tramslates as the "TVR & men going through a mid life crisis center"
Anyway, did no one else get these jitters before parting with the equavalent of a house extension or 6 months all inclusive at a Bangkok brothel??????????

But you bit the bullet, so how long have you had the Cerbie, any problems, it's hard enough to convince the girlfriend that not only will buying it help our sex life (it'll stop me ordering a Russian bride over the internet) but we'll need to build a new garage to house it in? but she won't swallow it costing the earth for 3 months driving in the summer, and the rest of the time in the dealers!
And you can make your own joke's up about the swallowing bit yourselves!
I bought her in Dec 02, from a dealer (Fernhurst, I have to say they were very good and very helpfull). In the 6 months I have owned her:
1. Indicator Lamp
2. Supply of Mobile I
3. Tons of Autoglym
4. Currently having slave cylinder replaced at Fernhurst
5. Lots of 97 Ron
6. and best of all incredible fun and the smile priceless.
I think no 5, was due to only covering 1500Miles in the year previous to me. The car does seem to get better with regular use and of course you have to get used to allways taking the long route! couple of weeks ago I went to B&Q (2 miles) it took 3hrs and a tank of gas, well the sun was shining. The wife said she was glad it was broken, now prehaps I can finish the bedroom.
