Trade or Private?
Discussion
If you're buying a car that you don't know, go for trade every time. You'll have protection and a guarantee if it turns out to be a lemon (and a lot of second hand TVRs can be).
However, the old addage of "never buy a car from a mate" goes the other way for a TVR. If it's a car that you know, and you know that it's been well looked after, buy it privately.
If you see a car that you don't know, ask here. There's a good chance somebody knows it. If you can't find anything about it here. Give it a miss. No matter how good it looks. Especially if it's a "bargain".

You are best to make up your own mind.
I am just wondering why trade brings you any piece of mind? Warranties are a minefield. Do you think that a trader actually spends the time sussing out the integrity of a car before putting it on the forecourt?! No! They hope that you pick up the bill to make it perfect. Money is the name of the game.
I would say go for a well known private car on this site, speak to the person who services it (particularly if Joolz or APM) and then just buy it.
but if you are trying to get rid of money buy from a dealer and then pay for a 17 yr old to service it at £90 per hr!! Ok I exaggerate
What do you want ? A 4.5? A lightweight? A RR? A very new one? Specific colours? Extras?

As I mentioned before, I won't be buying this year (about to head out on tour again) but I would be looking to spend £25 - £30k and currently I am leaning towards a 2000 styled 4.2.
Colour?, so many wonderful ones, that may not be an issue.
As for extras, jury is out on that still
